It's been a long time since I've been able to set everything up and record but I got a chance the other night and ran with it. I even got a chance to change my strings. Unreal!

Anyway, here's what I managed to record:

I've been playing this one for a couple of years now and this the second time I've recorded it. This is the first time on my Larrivee though.

DUDE THAT SOUNDS GREAT! That Larri kicks so much butt, it is unbelievable. Not to mention your playing sounds really good too. Reminiscent of this one Phil Keaggy song I can't remember the name of, off of Acoustic Sketches.

Awesome work. I can't wait for the CD to get finished.

Thanks!

I'm probably gonna be buried with this Larrivee OM-03R.

I just put new Elixir Nanoweb PB's on it. What really makes this song is the drop-D tuning and the use of the capo on the second fret.

That was very nice, I think I'll play it a time or two more.

I don't suppose you'd have a recommendation for a book that has that and similar tunes in it? The easier the better.

I don't know of any books, but here's a few sites with some useful stuff

Mark Hanson's Accent on Music

http://www.accentonmusic.com/

Pete Huttlinger has some tabs/lessons on his site:

Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, my personal favorite

http://www.fingerstyleguitar.com/html/fsg_home.htm

BTW - I also noticed that Edward Gerhard has a book on the market:

... and if you want to hear Edward Gerhard do this song, check out Woodsongs episode 423. He plays it near the end of the webcast.

Very nice. I'd like to learn more of that style to augment my electric playing. Do you wear fingerpicks?

~Blackbelt

No fingerpicks, just a little bit of fingernail with mostly the actual fingertip hitting the string.

I was watching a John renbourn DVD the other day and he super glues pieces of ping pong ball to the underneath of his finger nails! I can imagine how that effects your nails in the long term!

That was outstanding. I feel like I've heard this tune a million times, but rarely in a way that made me take notice. This was definitely one of those moments.

I've been on a nylon-string kick for a while now, and sometimes I forget how beautiful the chime of the steel-string guitar can be. Thanks for sharing!

One of the best versions of this I've heard kwak - just beautiful man
:thu:

Your arrangement?

Nope, not mine. I'm just a guitar player and actually not that good of a musician so I can't take credit for the arrangement. It's Edward Gerhard's version. See my reply above, there's a link to a video of him playing it.

BTW - if you've been over at APM's forum, there's a thread stickied where a bunch of folks did their own interpretations. Several also did the Edward Gerhard version. Michael Wong's rendition in particular blows mine away:

Here's the menu page of all the different takes:

Here's my old version that I did way back when with my trusty Tak:
