Members Steadfastly
You may not have heard of him (I hadn't) but as the article says, we should have. He produces some unique guitars and has developed a unique pickup, called the rotating humbucker. Links below to Rick Turner guitars and an article about him from Premier Guitar magazine. http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2011/Jan/Rick_Turner_The_Father_of_Boutique_Guitars.aspx http://www.renaissanceguitars.com/instruments.php http://www.renaissanceguitars.com/pdf/MakingTheTurner.pdf

Members kwakatak
If you're good at woodworking, here's how they are made. http://www.renaissanceguitars.com/pdf/MakingTheTurner.pdf Interesting. It's essentially a chambered/semi-hollow electric with a laminated neck that mounts like a solid body electric. There's a member here at HC named who used to frequent the acoustic forum who's gotten into building this type of guitar. All that is mostly lost on me as I'm into building pure acoustic flat top guitars at this point but I find the neck construction to be interesting. Many of independent "boutique" luthiers who make flat tops have begun constructing necks this way for both decorative and practical purposes. I like the idea because it's easier and cheaper to get woods that you can work with.

Members masterbuilt
I told Rick that he should make a matched set... Compass Rose guitar and matching ukulele. He thought that was a great idea but it hasn't happened yet.
