Members jmingo
Just curious, what famous players have 59 Les Pauls or 54 Strats?? Or other famous guitars... I know Gilmour has #1 which supposably isn't the very first one but still a 54...

Members AndyZ
Steve Lukather's famous sunburst LP I believe is a '59. He's had it since high school. Still does! He's playing it in the Randy Newman video "I Love LA" and I possibly in the Roseanna video.
Members jmingo
Why are 59's so famous/expensive anyways?? What's different about them. I'd think 52's would be the most expensive?? Thanks for the responses, keep em coming? Doesn't Slash have a bunch of them??
Members KillDozer
Paul McCartney has a lefty '60 burst. Jimmy Page, of course, has a few vintage Pauls.

It's specifically the 58, 59, & 60's Les Paul Standards that are so famous/expensive mainly because these are the Les Paul's that Eric Clapton played during his years with John Mayhall & Cream. Also, Gibson changed the Les Paul to the SG shape in '61 and they didn't produce a Les Paul with the original shape again until '68 or '69 I believe. A lot of collectors consider these '68 & > Les Pauls just poor copies of the original.
Members Noak
Jimmy Page had a 1959 sunburst Gibson Les Paul that he bought from Joe Walsh in the early 1970s.

Members MKSkud
I'm pretty sure Joe Perry has a '59 Les Paul... Story goes that he sold it to finance his drug addiction, and somehow later on Slash ended up with it, and gave it back to Joe Perry on his 50th birthday or something... Not 'ghostbuilt'... made by 'Max' and Chris Derrig. He still uses a lot of original Gibsons as well as owning some original vintage axes.
