What is a good compliment Overdrive to the Bad Monkey. Something that will give it a little more grit. I know there a million threads on the Bad Monkey and I read alot of them and couldn't seem to get the answer. Also settings on both Overdrives would be very cool! Thanks! :D

One thing I do with a Bad Monkey is:

Turn the drive/gain knob all the way up.

Turn the "level" knob to 12:00

Adjust the tone knobs to taste. Both knobs up gets rid of the mid hump.

Usually one of the two knobs or both should be maxed

Turn the volume down on your guitar to keep things from killing your ears.

I used to always leave the volume on my guitar all the way up and for that reason I couldn't get all of the Bad Monkey's potential out. Things got too loud. Crank the monkey and not the guitar.

And of course use a humbucker at the bridge setting.

If you MUST add a second pedal...I recommend a pedal with a tube in it that uses REAL tube voltages like

a BadCat 2-Tone, Matchless Hotbox, or

Radial Tonebone Classic (or British)

My setup is

EC Crossroads Pedal set to "Fender Sparkle" > DOD 250 > Bad Monkey

Bad Monkey: Gain 12:00, Bass 3:00, Treble 12:00

DOD 250: Gain 3:00, Level 10:00

Crossroads pedal alone provides a great clean tone

DOD 250 Alone gives a NICE gritty overdrive to my Epiphone Galaxie 10

Bad Monkey alone gives a nice smooth, light OD.

Crossroads + Bad Monkey = Cranked Deluxe Reverb

Crossroads + DOD 250 = Gritty Fenderish (maybe like a Champ?)

DOD 250 + Bad Monkey = CREAMY SMOOTH LEAD OD.

I am perfectly satisfied with my tone. These three pedals (along with a tuner) are the only ones on my board.

Like some have suggested before me :

Either a Big Muff NYC RI...or...a Boss BD-2 !

I HAVE BOTH AND USE THEM WITH A TS9 (very similar to your Bad Monkey)

Another FANTASTIC PEDAL that will work just the way you want it (more grit), is the almighty, 'RAT II' !!!

I stand 100% behind all three !

Which is first? Do you run your guitar into the direct drive then the bad monkey? Or the other way around. I also have a barber direct drive. I use as my main distortion, overdrive sound. I'm looking for something to place after it that will give me a little more volume with a good lead tone, and something I can use as a light overdrive tone with a clean amp. I tried using a maxon od-9, but it's too middy sounding with the barber.
