Phil O'Keefe Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Family members gathered at his home Tuesday night. They said he was recently involved in a Nigerian Internet offering. "He did receive a check in the mail last week for $50,000," said Sharon Riolo, Irwin's sister. "That frightened him. All of the sudden it became a little bit scary." Authorities said Irwin returned the check. Lesson #1 - don't reply to any Nigerian scam emails. I hope he's found safe and sound.
Members blue2blue Posted August 26, 2005 Members Posted August 26, 2005 I thought that "Nigerian internet offering" comment was a joke until I read the actual article. Eee-yow. It looks pretty dark but I hope it's not too late to hope he comes out of this okay.

Members rog951 Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 Weird, weird, weird. Dude, stay away from the brown acid...
Members blue2blue Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 I was wary of saying anything while the guy might actually be in danger... but I have to say that this smelled fishy from the word "go"... I was thinking more along the lines of a faked disappearance (perhaps to evade a collapsing house of cards lifestyle) rather than a paranoid breakdown, but there was just something about the description of the phone call... ... and what kind of savvy music biz professional would fall for the Nigerian Scam -- of all things? How long could someone that gullible last in the LA music biz? My guess is about 8-1/2 minutes...
Members blue2blue Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 Here's an update on Irwin's case: http://www.presstelegram.com/Stories/0,1413,204~21474~3029776,00.html He's being held at a medical facility on a 72-hour observation and evaluation hold.
