Theres only one way to find out for sure, Buy a set of GFS P-90s and see what you can do with them.

You get a guitar with a pair of single coils and you select the middle position with your selector switch!


 

 

Not the same. A stock 2xP90 guitar will be wired with the P90's in parallel. To mimic a humbucker, you would wire them in series.

 

As to the OP, you would probably get a hot, muddy sounding PU if you made a humbucker from two P-90's. HB's already get pretty blurry in the midrange because of their width, that would be increased with the extra width of P90's. Not to mention that there would be 4 magnets running though the piece (a traditional Gibson-style HB is not two SC's put together, but two coils that share one magnet between them).
