Members Ultradust
Crimson and Blue, Way Back Home, Sunday's Child... All fantastic albums, the songwriting and performances are first class.
Members golias
Tremendous guitar skills and musicianship... Amazingly boring songwriter and composer. (That's opinion, peeps, relax.) If you can find it, get your hands on the CD single called "The Revelator." It's a single off his Crimson and Blue album that contains a few okay-ish alternate takes of his cover of "John the Revelator", and an ***EPIC*** 17-minute improv jam between just him and a drummer. That jam is the best thing he ever recorded. (Again, opinion. But seriously, find that single if you can.)
Members 59refin
Saw the Master and the Musicaian tour a few weeks ago and had to say this: If you care about guitar music at all go see this tour! Not only is Phil incredible but he has a backing band that you just won't believe.. My wife who is a total non-musician loved it. Absolutely one of the most impressive concerts I've seen in over 40 years of seeing them.
Members als_lespaul
I love his instrumental album "220". I believe he played bass on that album also.
Members Ancient Mariner
Great under-rated, understated player. I don't own a single PK track, and I also don't own a single Eric Johnson track. Thank you whoever drew the comparison: you've helped me understand why, despite my admiration for the man, I don't really want to change this situation. Members 57GLDTP
I've said this here before (& elsewhere) & I'll say it again. After seeing a Phil Keaggy performance I always want to do one of two things. 1. Woodshed2. give it up & bury all my guitars in the back yard. I've also said this: I've had the pleasure of seeing Phil many times both asa solo acoustic act & playing electric w/ full band. I STILL can't make upmy mind if he is a better acoustic or electric player. He IS that good. 57GT:)
Members DenverDave
Phil is one of my favorite players, and a great person to boot! He is back in Denver in September - and I will be there!! It's a solo acoustic show, but those tend to be incredible (I've seen a few of them...). One of the few guitar 'heros' from the 70's who is still experimenting and growing as a player.. Members pathofspirit
when asked who the best guitarist is, Jimi Hendrix mentioned "Keaggy." This is an unverifiable urban legend but it's only been around for 30+ years because his playing is good enough to get people's attention. I first heard this back in '76-'77 when I saw Phil with full band on his "Love Broke Through" tour. Never heard him before but went very skeptically when I heard this line about Hendrix. Long story short; like everyone else in the audience I was blown away by his guitar playing. He's nothing short of amazing. His recent acoustic cd of cover songs is very good, too. Members Backerhacker
I met him in Youngstown around '88 or '89. He was very laid-back. I'd heard him play and told how awesome he was and he'd said something like, "Oh, thanks." Then he'd asked me about my playing. I'd really appreciated that even back then.
