Joni Mitchell's "Shadows and Light" band is close to perfect for me. Maybe move Don Alias from drums to percussion and replace on kit with, say, Steve Gadd or Peter Erskine and I could be happy.

Don was more of a percussionist anyway, though I thought he did a fabulous job on the traps on that tour.

By the way, for those of you not in the know... the band Mark is referring to:

- Joni Mitchell (guitar, vocals)

- Pat Metheny (guitar)

- Jaco Pastorius (bass)

- Michael Brecker (sax)

- Lyle Mays (keys)

- Don Alias (drums)

Lake on Bass (need to simplify) and backup...occasional lead

Trower on Guitar

Anderson on Vocals and Flute (Gottcha...though I meant Jon didn't you??)

Would LOVE to hear what Ian and Keith could come up with songwise....seen ELP about 12 time and Tull 6-7.

Wow, I didn't realize that Sheryl Crow was old enough to have been able to perform with Elvis. That dates her a bit more than I thought. She's either older than I thought, or she started playing professionally as a VERY young teen.

hmmm....

lead vocal - Salif Keita

backup chorus - Crosby, Nash, Sinead, Carl Wilson

percussion - Manolo Badrena

drums - Roy Haynes

keys - Herbie

sax - Shorter

bass - Mingus

guitar - Neil Young..no wait, scratch that....can't think of anyone, really....Metheny too Metheny-like, Scofield too cute, ok, McGlaughlin could do this, really...if he bends away from his mahavishnu-machine-gun mode and more towards his Bill Evans mode...really, he could!

What material should they play??? Ummm....covers of Monk tunes maybe with wild arrangements by Mingus

Short-lived as it would of course be, it would be worth it to see at least 8 people simultaneously attempt to strangle Crosby (only Sinead would succeed.)
