Members gardo
found this for sale locally, asking a grand. He's not sure exactly when it was built or if it even works. I'm not buying but very curious
Members t_e_l_e
the 5y3 looks like it lost its vacuum, is it already modded for a 3prong power chord? if the transformers are working, new tubes and maybe a cap job, for a grand you could get a great amp, if no working transformers it might just be an expensive dirty furniture
Members pekelnik
It seems 5C3s were built only between 1953 and 1955. I suppose 1000$ is about right?
Members pekelnik
That is assuming the transformers are fine, I'd bring my set of tubes to test it if I wanted to buy it.
Members gardo
I think there would be a major confrontation if I brought that home and said that it only cost a thousand dollars.
Members pekelnik
Well you could research how much they go for and do work on it and bring it to as nice state as it can get and tell your wife that you can sell it for 3k (or whatever is realistic based on the market) but the value will go up in future. Members gardo
She knows my tricks. I put it on CL at a high price and show her the listing. Then when she forgets about it delete the post and put it somewhere that she won't see it every day.
Members gardo
Overnight the price went up to $1500. I never did intend to buy, it but still find it interesting.
Members Grant Harding
I bet if it was properly restored internally that it would easily fetch at least $2K to the right buyer. Just based on the age and rarity alone.
