HNGD!! My Melody Maker's neck is like that with the open pores and it bothered me for all of 3 seconds when I first opened the box. After playing it I was like who cares since I could not actually feel the open pores.
Theres only two kinds of music HEAVY and METAL!!!!!

Do the open pores mean it is more likely to develop blackheads?

          HNGD!

And yes, I have had a couple of Gibson Fadeds, and the one thing that I cannot stand is the porousness of the finish. Like you said, if Fender can do it (and Epiphone, too, FCS), then why not Gibson??? However, I'm sure is sounds and plays great as is, so congrats!
This used to be a great place. Thanks, GCI, for killing it.See y'all at Wein's.

I like the SG`s first one I bought was back in the early 70s, a secondhand one for 400 quid, can`t remember what the price was then but you can pick them up now for 999, so I don`t think they`ve really gone up much over the years

              Nice guitar.

My Flying V Faded essentially has that same finish. I find it very thin because on one of the edges the finish rubbed off while it was in the gig bag. Go figure.

I wouldn't fuss about the binding issue if the guitar plays and sounds to your liking. If you sent it back you could get something with some actual issues or a broken headstock during shipping. Not worth the time and shipping costs

This is what I'm inclined to think too. It sounds like a MONSTER, it's unreal. I'm not a big stoner rock fan but this thing would KILL for that, and I like the sound a ton. Through my Marshall it's Sabbath in a can. Who's to say a replacement one will sound like that?

Yeah, I'd be inclined to say it's minor enough to keep because of the reported feel and monster sound. The next one you get could look better and be a dog sound-wise. OR it could be absolutely perfect and have a snapped neck from shipping ... OR, well you get the idea: A bird in the hand.

Right. It doesn't help that my local Guitar Center doesn't have any of these that I could've played in person...

Sounds like something that Gibson would totally do.
