Here is why actually playing a keyboard might be a good idea.

Interesting... well it said the keyboard parts were 1.5 semitones sharp, so that would be tricky to transpose on a guitar without retuning.

That said, why didn't they just fix the bitrate on the keyboard playback and start over? Or better yet, why didn't they have a real keyboard player?

No kidding. U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, and Placebo all utilize keyboardists hiding in the back or even offstage. Even if you think keyboardists look lame next to your supergroup, the least you can do is pay a human to hide in the wings.

Bwa ha ha so true! We keyboardists BRING SHAME and must be hidden!

Really, Van Halen got what they deserved by using a recording.

And to Van Halen: next time that happens be professional and play a rest.

:freak:

The back track which runs throughout the song was off.

There was really nothing that they could do.

Kudos to Wolfgang for noticing immediately that the backtrack was off and not attempting to play the bass. :thu:

Jeeezuzzz...that's the worst I've ever seen a million-selling band f*ck up on stage before. I almost feel sorry for them, but they got paid ten times more for that gig then I ever have.

Suprised to hear Diamond Dave's still got his pipes in good working order.

It sounds like Eddie could use his OB-Xa though.

I guess once you start the song you have no choice but finish - still it was horrible. Fans didn't seem to care though.

Nice to hear David Lee back in front. I really liked Sammy Hagar with Montrose, but IMO, he never seemed to fit in vocally with VH.

Hasn't anyone tried to find out what key the backing track is in?

It's surprising the guitarists couldn't easily compensate.

Amatuer Hour.

WTF?

I just grabbed my bass to see for myself - dude the song is supposed to be in the key of C.

As the video poster said, the actual pitch played was about 1.5 semitones sharp.

I'd pay money to see you or any guitarist who could "easily compensate" in that situation.

You do understand that a half a semitone cannot be played on a guitar except by bending the strings, right? And when I say bending I mean bending it to an odd interval that no western guitarist would ever use.

It's basically not possible to "easily compensate" in that situation.

Calling Eddie an amateur - wow - I guess you're the super pro of all pros.

That guy has done more for rock guitar than any living guitarist and is a legend.

Where is your band playing tonight?

Dude, you're an idiot. The backing track is playing in the key of C# (I used 554.37Hz). That's not 1.5 semitones. :D Which part of your bass did you grab? :p

Yes, that whole disaster was amatuer hour mistakes. None of them should have happened.
