Members skunky_funk
My list of buzzwords in the recording business; if your studio has these, you would probably attract more clients: PRO TOOLSMACNEUMANNNEVEAVALONNS-10etc But is the phrase "two inch analog deck" still something sought after nowadays? Do producers and artists still get turned on by that? Most especially if you say STUDER or OTARI?

Members EngineGuitarist
my favorite buzzword is "imagineer" I feel a band should let the engineer make choices of whether to use tape or not. budget in mind of course. an engineer should know more than the musician about what gear to use. If a singer/guitarist told me he must use a specific mic for vocals and a specific mic on his amp I'd give them 2 coices. 1) NO, you'll use what I think sounds best or 2) ok, but i tell you what guitar to play, what amp to use, what the settings on it are, what pedals you'll use as well as what type and gauge of strings you will use. you hire an engineer for his skill, not so he'll do whatever you want. just my opinion. Members jackcheez
I get more business from word of mouth than from buzzwords.
Members seaneldon
when someone asks for a U87, i put one on a stand for them. i also put a soundelux or similar mic right next to it and ask the singer to do two takes, one into each mic. then i have them come in the control room, listen back without knowing which is which, and choose what they like. this is a good way to eliminate this ongoing problem. on the subject of tape, in 90% of my sessions something i record hits an otari mtr90, or goes into a dangerous 2bus and then into an otari mtr10. tape isn't a buzzword for me, it's part of my workflow. Phil O'Keefe
Is 2" tape still a buzzword? To some people, and in some circles, sure. Tape still has a certain sound that is difficult to get (some would say "impossible to get") any other way, and for those people, and for those who may have "read a little about how their fave artist did their record" (IOW, some elements of the "buzzword" crowd), 2" tape is still desireable. However, there's probably even more people who want "Pro Tools" instead these days. At least as far as the "buzzword crowd" goes. The amount of inquiries I get about tape has dropped dramatically over the past five years or so, while the amount of inquiries about "Pro Tools" has gone up, but I can't give you any hard and fast stats on how many of those inquiries were from knowledgeable people with a personal preference and legit reasons for asking for one or the other vs how many came from poseurs.
