i cant find info about sq2 battery replacement, nor where to purchase said battery.

i CAN find a wealth of info on the ESQ1 battery, but thats another project for another day.

i aim to put the (new to me) sq2 to full-time gig status starting aug 12 but i get a low battery warning everytime i turn it on.

my esq1 has been giving me this warning for about 5 years now - still havent suffered any patch losses or any other issues due to low battery. the esq1 is never, EVER used live anymore. i simply chereish it too much to haul it around. however i have no love for the sq2 and find it much more suitable for what i do live. except it weighs 9000lbs and its fricken HUGE.

I haven't replaced the battery in my SQ1 yet and it died off about 8 years ago, I just send sysex to it. But I found a page that talks about the battery which is supposed to be a Panasonic BR 2032 3v lithium. Someday I'm going to have to summon up the balls to unsolder the old one and replace it.

Hola Coaster!

I had to replace my SQ1's battery once and I got this answer from a very helpful guy at EMU:

The battery is a Panasonic BR 2032 3v lithium. That battery is

available through any electronics parts store. It is soldiered into place. Keep in mind that we do not do repair support or encourage end user repair. If you attempt the repair, you are on your own. Your unit can be serviced through on of the authorized service centers as well.

A list of US Authorized Service Centers can be found at the

following URL on our Web Site:

Well I bought the battery(two actually because they were in a pack of two) which was an Energizer CR2032 3.v lithium and popped the hood to reveal some small dust bunnies in there.

I didn't want to risk using a soldering iron and blowing up the battery so I took an exacto knife to it and pried one connection off then promtly broke the other one off. So I got a little piece of shielded wire, removed some shielding and soldered it to the board which was tricky but worked. Then I tried to use electrical tape to connect the wire and the other connector to the new battery and in the process broke the other connector also.

So I took another little piece of wire and soldered it to the board by just heating up the wire with some solder on it and setting it in place on the board for a few seconds and it froze right into place. Then I cut off some little pieces of electrical tape and taped the battery to the wires, and folks... it worked! :D

Talk to this guy.

I know him. He's got a ton of Emu and Ensoniq stuff.

He can probably set you up. If he doesn't have it, he can probably tell you where to get it.

Actually, here's what you are looking for on this page.

See? I told you he'd have it....:p
