I find this quite refreshing, gotta to hand to you folks this forum is awesome, glad I joined, Don't get me wrong I think it's a decent DAW but it's not helped by it's users(not all just a vocal and vitriol few). I really dig the in depth reviews here tooo(kudos to Craig Anderton and crew).

(Oh No, I hope I wont be proven wrong by posting this, no need to ruin my first post).

Edit: man I got to look at my post before I hit submit, The word is Amazing not anazing, dang, it's not an sinus condition.

Welcome! We here at SSS understand that DAWs are intended to make music, so whatever floats your boat is fine because no one will hear the DAW - they'll hear the music.

I regularly play PRS, Gibson, Fender, and Variax guitars. I don't get into internal arguments with myself about which one to use, I just pick the right guitar for the right sound. Similarly, I use multiple DAWs. My main one is Sonar, but I use Ableton Live for my live act, Pro Tools for classical recording sessions I engineer, Acid when I need to get audio-for-video done in the least possible amount of time, and I really like Studio One Pro's mastering page - it's aces, and there's nothing like it. And I'll rewire Reason into anything I can, which unfortunately is limited with a 64-bit OS but now that Reason has 64-bit ReWire, the other guys will catch up.

I've tried Reaper and it's a fine program, but it doesn't offer any killer compelling advantage for my particular set of needs compared to my current roster of programs, so at the moment, it's one less thing to learn.

By the way with my super moderator powers I could go in and edit Anazing, but I kind of like it.

Hi and welcome to the forum from me, it is a very professional one in my view.

I am a member of the Zoom forum and a lot of people prefer Reason there too, but I use Cubase LE5, that came bundled with my Zoom R8 Recorder and it does everything that I need to do for the moment and works well with the R8, and on my basic netbook: 1.5ghz, 1gig ram, Win7 Starter.

I think the main reason people use Reason is it has a very competitive price tag, not sure how it would work on my netbook though.

I'm not sure which forums you normally hang around, CT, but we do have quite a few Reaper fans and users here (I'm one of them). However I certainly don't care which DAW someone else uses. Hell, I still record on analog tape when I can. I think that some people might get really zealous about Reaper because they don't advertise and are not as well known as other DAWs, and some people like to root for the underdog. Which is fine, and Reaper really is an amazing package for the price (or even for much more than the price). So I think it's a good idea for people to try it (why not, it's free), especially if they don't have much money. People often go with the products that are the most heavily marketed, and Reaper is a refreshing change from that. I certainly understand why it has a lot of vocal fans, but there are really forums where Reaper fans are slamming people who use a different DAW? That's pretty hilarious.

Thanks, I am going to check Reaper out.

{Reaper}
(why not, it's free), especially if they don't have much money.

Not to nitpick Lee, but it is not free.

As full functioning software, you can download and try it...... but they really do kinda expect you to pay the very fair charge of $60. (or $225 if you are using it for commercial use and make over $200,000 a year.)

"If after 30 days you decide that REAPER is not for you, simply delete it.

If you decide that REAPER is for you, you must purchase a license."

To download it and use it indefinitely without paying the $60 is pretty lame in my book. Especially when you consider they are trusting people to do the right thing.... and that software like 'Tools and DP etc runs around $500-$600....Logic also not so long ago....now around $200 I think.

$60 is nothing in comparison and it is good software. I think it is a steal.

Yeah, how's that working out for people who record music for a living?

They've been doing that pay scheme for years now, so I imagine it's working out okay. They're an extremely responsive company, often posting fixes a day after someone has mentioned a bug, so something tells me that if it hadn't been working out for them, they would have changed it in a hurry.

Well, from everything I've heard the guy behind the company has beaucoup bucks - and it's not a publicly-owned company (or a division of a larger company) - so they can pretty much do whatever they want.

Well it's look's as though I was right, every reply has been informative and civil, Kudos to all, I got to thinking after this was posted that I might be guilty of my own stated claim and if so I sincerly Apologize. The reason I put this up is because of this post at KVR:http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=268463, it's not that this pops up every where I go but I have seen it a lot on software forums(company owned) at that. I myself first use Sonar 8.5, Project 5.2, Presonus Studio One,Adobe Audition and Samplitude and I criss cross in out of all of them as needed. Reaper is an awesome program I've tried it and couldn't get into it, doesn't make it a bad program just because I didn't get it or fall in love with it. Being a low cost alternative will get it a lot of attention, kind of like linux ya' think(you remember the ol' Linux, Windows fight).Like I said Awsome Forum.:)

Edit: accept for A. Einstein, but I think he(or she) prefers it that way

I'll admit to being a Reaper 'fanboi' , but I'm not hysterical about it. I use it. I like it. That's about it...

I think pretty much everybody here is civil (mostly) and brings a perspective that balances out nicely among all the members. Guess I'm a fanboi of this forum too!

It's free to TRY it - which is all I was suggesting in the post. ;)

Yes, and just to make things crystal clear, I HAVE paid for it. Twice, in fact - the license is good for 2 major revisions and I've now been using Reaper since version 1 (it's at 4 now).

I was going to renew at version 3 but they gave me an extension for free when I emailed them to inquire about the status of my license. I actually felt kind of badly about that so I went ahead and renewed when v. 4 came out, without bothering to ask. :D
