Wiki says there's a surgery for it. Yeah, but it's a thin layer of bone away from fatal or blinding mistakes. That said, I'm 80% ready to have it done when I get back to the States.

That didn't work so well, takes too long, is generally unpleasant. I rely on my sinus rinse bottle, which actually squirts warm (not hot!) salt + soda bicarbonate up my nose. That helps greatly, but is not sufficient. A large part of the problem is a deviated septum.

  9. Wow, my sinusitis went from 2 (percolating for some time without ill effects) to 60 yesterday. I had a 104 F (40 C) fever. Figured I should go to the doc. Ended up walking almost 1 km there, supported by the wife. Got meds. Apparently one is a serious antibiotic. I'm down to 99.2 F now.
  10. Rule #1: When I have to ask you the same question three times, it generally means that you are in deep {censored} as a visa applicant, or digging a very big hole.

  12. Of the four slices of bread we had left in the fridge, two had small (.8 cm) spots of mold on them, back to back. The other two had no apparent mold. So I ate them. Was this ill-advised?
  13. I'm going to do pushups on my knuckles because I've had no exercise in weeks, plus some small hand dumbbells. Then maybe a little bass, and then probably some WoW time. Might read later today. Call me crazy.
  14. The boss is on vacation all week, another officer left her post early in June to go to Iraq with no one coming to replace her until November, a third colleague who manages all the visa stuff and backs up the boss is out sick for two days, and I'm left scrambling to manage the entire section, both visas and American services, without any access to the e-mail of the boss or his backup to figure out what big problems are brewing unbeknownst to me, all the while adjudicating visas, passports, and anything else people throw at me. We're basically at 40% of full officer staffing, and I have about 14 locally employed staff to worry about. Two days of this now, right after I came back from two days of vacation. I'm dead tired trying to do more than two full time jobs, and I need my colleague to stop being sick.

They're not passive listening, nod-ya-head jazz.
  17. I need an easier German fiction book to read than Professor Unrat. Trouble is, I can't stand trash lit. I was thinking of getting back into the Harry Potter series since I stopped after book 5, but I think I'd miss all the jokes in translation.

  22. Purple and swollen isn't good, right? Walking is hard.
  23. OK, toe still hurts. Going to limp somewhere nearby for dinner and beer. But I'm gonna have to skip hunting the jazz clubs / open mics as I'd planned for tonight.
