  1. Got 2 myself, Charger 290 and a Warhawk HB, though I am GASing for one with a trem, pref an older 390.
  2. Not my point...I rather have it sound good, feel good and play good than be hung up or spend disprportionately on bookmatched butt monkey swirl koa mahogany hybrid old stock from the bottom of the sea, ship wreck recovered guitar wood...To your point yes, that Warmoth body is pretty. But that is a {censored}load of cash for a body.
  3. This is beautiful, but, I don't know when guitars turned into furniture. Guitars are more about shape, sound and whether they make me want to play them than anything else.
  4. The only two that really align with my thinking are... 1. Hendrix 70. Eddie Van halen My thoughts exactly..
  5. I hope that means that you looked at the post scolfax quoted again and realized that you are coming off like a dolt. Michael Hedges is in your top 50 ROCK guitarists? that guy played (or plays, is he dead or something?) new agey sleepy time music. I thought it was cool 15 or 20 years ago, but only as a novelty. Rock guitarist. ROCK. Re-read the thread title. That said, I think clapner sucks too. I have no idea why people fall on the ground for that lightweight. I like american music played by americans, not the british verion of american music (except the stones, or course. The stones RULE!). So, scratching Michale Hedges off of your top 50 rock guitarists, who is left? Where does Joe Negri rank? Not gonna feed the troll re: your insult. RE: Hedges- You cannot be serious. The guy was tapping on harp like guitars. Have you heard his live version of on a Double Planet? You cannot have. ?? I guess my point is, maybe to YOUR point, he is not rock, but what IS rock is not neccessarily all that DOES rock. I think Hedges influenced many more players than you even know...Michael Hedges was still developing..Then was killed....Same with Hendrix...EVH kind of stagnated, went bat{censored} for a bit, but, it sure looks like he has his head back together, and I hope he keeps working, but I still hear nothing new in his playing. I have also said that, this is my opinion, and even though I have been playing for years, I have enough brains to know the majority of folks on here could play circles around me.. But I stick to it, top 75, not top 50. Whatever. Top 75, not 50, for me. Your list is different. Rock on.
  6. Rolling Stone making a list of best guitarists is akin to the burrito boy at Taco Bell writing for Bon Appetit'.
  7. Honestly, when I read this, I picture this: I don't count how many bars the solo is in Panama. Amen.
  8. I think my last post made Scolfax have a Seizure ( hopefully not..) Remember ,Opinions are like elbows...everyone has 2.
  9. OH- BTW....He is not Top 50 or Top 100 even.....I think he is the Milk Toast King of Blues Rock... I am not a Clapton fan either. Haters Gonna Hate.
  10. Oh come on! Be honest, he's not in the top 50 rock guitarists of all time?!?! Edward Van Halen?? Seriously?? I mean really and truly his worst enemy would put him in the top 5 without hesitation. So would your mom, ask her. (I'm not saying this as a joke, I would like you to please ask your mother if Eddie Van Halen would be in her personal list of the top 50 rock guitarists of all time) My opinion, nothing more..Top 75, not top 50. Other than the tapping, the rest of it has been done, the tone, the speed, all of it. The tapping was even being done by others, better, but, they were as huge. What happened to Stanley Jordan? Michael Hedges? EVH is a Rock God, Guitar Hero, but I can come up with 50 I think are better, more impactful, less appreciated. Again, my opinion, and I suck as a guitarist, I am only now at 45 trying to really learn. so for whatever it is worth. Agree to disagree. It also does not mean I am not a fan. I saw them live a couple times ( they sounded like {censored}, but all the arena concerts pretty much sounded that way then ( 80's) or at least the ones I went to. I guess if you narrow it to rock, and then hard rock, then metal, yeah, but again, where do those lines go? The guy still shreds. No argument there. And, I asked my mom. She said 'what does he play'. My mom fronted a bar/wedding band for 20 years, so she has heard her share of tunes. She knew who he was once I refreshed her, but she said 'eh, I like Clapton....'
  11. There is a list, growingly slowly moldy, n my head of times where I heard something and just stopped and thought " holy {censored}!" play that again. Jimi is on that list innumerable times. Clapton, none. EVH is on it. I don't even place Clapton on the all time greats list. I have NEVER been inspired by him. But that's jst me, and I suck, but I know what good music is. Jimi is mother's milk. Clapton is McDonald's. I can think of 50 players who smoke him AND inspire AND make great music. I am 45, and the song Wind Cries Mary still gives me the chills, everytime. Typing the title raised the hair on my arms. Jimi was special. If he were still alive today, he would still be special, and I would be happy to see and hear him play.
  12. That is by far the most coherent interview I have seen with the guy in years...maybe decades....maybe he CAN turn it around. He is certainly a trend setter, certinaly al all time great lister. For me, I don't think he is top 50 even, but he sounds better tuning that I do playing, so WTF do I know.
  13. Blue Crayons are the best ever. All the others suck... I hate silly threads like this.. EVH is awesome. I'd never let him near my children, but the dude is an icon and gamechanger. Along with 1,000 other's before him and a 1,000 more after him. I like to focus on the 'enjoying what he shares with us' part. He owns a couple moments in my life as do other things. The first time I heard 'Ain't talkin bout love's opening riff is one of many.
