  1. Thanks for the info, although this discussion ended over a decade ago, amigo...
  2. Sorry, Kid, the ruling goes with Moody...published is only in reference to the actual release date [publication] of a recording, has nothing to do with a publisher, per se.
  3. http://blog.discmakers.com/2014/01/intro-to-music-licenses/?utm_campaign=EA1407&utm_source=DMAudio&utm_medium=Email Covers the basic about Blanket License, Master License and Sync License...
  4. nice list, sven...that last page looks to have some formatting issues...
  5. why would you pay someone to do this? By the time you have told them the songs, authors, etc., you have done 90% of the registration... I know we are loathe to deal directly with our federal government, but this one is relatively painless.
  6. Thanks to Pogo for posting this in one of my other forums...I think, if you are going to try to do anything in the business, this is a good eyeopener: The 20 THings YOu Must Know About Music OnLine

  9. not as modern as many of you guys, not as eclectic as EightString...we shall see how this pans out when my voice is ready for a full night...so far it has been fairly short sets for private stuff. There are ton more from Chuck Berry, the Stones, the Beatles, Dylan, James Taylor, etc...these are the ones I'm working on in preparation.

I would imagine many people who would steal thousands of dollars worth of gear would be inclined to drive a good distance to unload it. Do those databases, if used, interlink? The only major theft I knew of happened to a DJ. The biggest hit wasn't the gear, it was the records. Better than a decade of collections, BPM marking and the lot. He ended up tracking it down not though any legislation or the police. He did his own police work for well over a month and tracked it down. Maybe an element of luck but he was committed, with good reason. What happens if you buy a guitar from a pawn shop, take it to a gig and some dude comes up to you telling you it's his guitar. You bought the guitar cash. The pawn shop owner is responsible right? But is there any resulting fines for the shop owner for selling stolen gear? Or in California, for not checking it? Can you just go back to the shop with the receipt in hand and demand the money? Does the other person need to be there with a police report? What happens if the person did not fill out a police report? My understanding is the pawn shop is supposed to do a 'due diligence' reporting of the serial number of the instrument (also firearms) to the police database, and if there is a match, they turn in the person who sold the instrument (they are supposed to verify ID at time of transaction). If some guy shows up at a gig claiming you have his axe, well, yeah, get a copy of the police report...absent that, that guy's claim is moot...no proof? Buh-Bye...

This still sounds like there is something missing from teh story...
  17. you can do it either way, but as the authors, why not just file the PA and forget the SR?
  18. Tom Petty victim of instrument theft! http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/...guitars-stolen Never mind...all recovered...a security guard stole them...
  19. Your local constabulary sounds like they are out of step with the state laws...
  20. if you reported it stolen to the police, all you should have had to do was notify the police. The pawn shop is liable for purchasing stolen property...under California law, they have a legal obligation to make sure they are not abetting the thief by receiving stolen property.

  22. pay a SEO operation to put you up on top of searches.... but really, this is why the internet is NOT the promotional tool people mistake it for. It is a search oriented medium, people find things by looking, and if they aren't looking for your product, guess what?
  23. Just a properly labeled CD. Remember you are dealing with the Federal Government Bureaucracy here, so don't confuse them by sending more than one item

I also have the name of the album and would like to copyright that as well. Does that have to be done seperately or can I do the album name and the lyrics contained within? thanks Just submit the barebones of the songs with a simple accompaniment, there is no 'arrangement' requirement for a copyright...you are protecting the song, not the version you hear in your head. The final recorded version, if you really feel the need to spend money, can be filed under form SR (Sound Recording); this to my way of thinking is a total waste of time and money, but some people do it... You can't copyright the album titile nor the song titles. You can also copyright the entire 'album' as a single 'collection', and save yourself a lot of filing fees.
