What current guitar players who are STILL writing good songs were markedly influenced by him? Probably way more than you know. Possibly every recording guitarist with a Floyd Rose and a humbucker.

Van Halen influenced Hendrix, but Van Halen drew a lot of his own influence from Jimmy Buffett. I read in the June '71 Guitar World that EVH originally wrote Margaritaville as an instrumental, but Buffett caught it at a club, added lyrics, and put it on vinyl first. Bet Hendrix was laughing his ass off!

I think EVH is a great guitar player and was influential beyond a doubt. However, to consider him the best would be to discount Jimi Hendrix who had even more influence on guitarists. I think VH's influence was really only one generation of players whereas Hendrix is in the 4th generation and counting. Excellent point! But surely it's more than one generation for EVH.

I lightly press my pinky fingernail against the body. Since I'm using the fingernail the finger is free to move around, so I wouldn't call it anchoring. I would only call it a crutch in the event that I lost my pinky finger.

This is a barely used First Act Sheena CE240. Poplar body w/ transparent black flametop Set-neck w/ maple fretboard Humbucker in the bridge / P90 in the neck PRS scale-length: 25" First Act was blowing out these guitars on their website a couple of months ago. I bought it for practicing at work, but have barely used it. They used to sell for just under $500 here. I took the white pearloid pickguard off, but can put it back on if you want. It could also use a setup - the action is just a tad too low and I'm sure the intonation is a bit off. I don't want to haggle, so I'm going straight to the lowest I'll take for it.
