Members jrockbridge
I cut 2 notches in the sound hole of a Yamaha acoustic to fit a pickup. Everybody asked me, "Were you stoned when you did that?" That was back in 1986 and I can't even remember if I was stoned. I finally cut the entire sound hole larger to improve it...definitely helped the look.

Members aliensporebomb
The best stratocaster I ever owned got destroyed by falling face first from a guitar stand onto a concrete basement floor pushing the knobs and other protrusions INTO the body, the neck snapped off and numerous chunks of the body came out. How did this happen? I ran to pick up a phonecall from a girl who had no interest in me but patronized me a bit and the cable from the phone that was coming down from the ceiling had a very good "push the back of the neck forward at high speed mode". Ugh. I later sold it at a loss to an acquaintance because I couldn't bear to see the damage anymore. And, this one is not my mistake but someone built a suit of armor for an ibanez strat copy:

Members p4vl
All on the Same guitar: Trying to lower the action on a floyd rose guitar by screwing in the pegs on either side of the bridge as far as they could go. Clamping down the locking nut as hard as I could physically turn the hex wrench Constantly adjusting the anchoring screws for detuning, until they just ripped right out. That guitar gently wept. I have a friend with a spectacular heroin addiction who sold his mint '64 strat two years ago for $1400. I still hate him for that.
Members twisty571
#1 Should have never quit 20 years ago. #2 Sold a mint 60's Rick 360 my Dad gave me for $800 (didn't know value then) but my GF was in hard times with 3 kids so I helped. Still with her after 13 years & my Dad got over it especially when I sold my 57' Chevy to help him buy a new house

Members pamackie
I once left my RG on the top bunk of my dorm...with the cable still connected to the amp. Drunk roommate walked in and dragged it down, shattering a 1"x1" piece of the finish right by the strap buttons.
Members kit_strong
After deciding it was finally time to learn guitar, at the tender young age of 32, I was living in Dallas at the time, I bought an AE and an electric, found a good instructor really close to my house. Took 2 lessons then decided to move to Austin where I proceeded to let my guitars sit in the corner and collect dust for almost 3 years. But at least I finally started playing again and this time I doubt I'll be stopping. Members A_Gitarman
My biggest guitar screw-up would either be paying something like $200+ to install a Schaller Floyd-Rose and EMGs into a freakin HONDO (a $100 guitar) or this: ...it's an early-80's Aria 'Diamond Jet Axe'

Members nuke_diver
Not really a screwup but an accident. While working on the outside of the house installing new wood panels we hammered the new panels into the frame by hand. After finishing and coming inside to eat and clean up my wife said "that heavy framed picture of you at Laguna Seca fell off the wall...I hope it didn't hit any of your guitars" I ran in and checked my guitars. 1st one ok, 2nd one ok 3rd one (my first guitar from my since departed mother) big ass hole in the side of it (it's an acoustic) I did get it fixed but it cost me a lot more than the price of fixing it because the place I took it to to fix was also a Revenend dealer and they had this beautiful Manta Ray HB on display...I fell in love So the repair cost 80 to fix the acoustic and 600 for the Manta Ray But in the end it was worth it
