Members Ritchie_88
I have Fender standard Stratocaster (mexico) from 2004-2005 (somewhere there) and I don't know if the original frets, that are still on the guitar, are vintage frets or medium jumbo frets? Is there anyone out there who knows? Thanks!
Members Bro Blue
Most likely vintage.
Members Ritchie_88
Most likely vintage. The thing that makes me confused is that the new standard stratocasters made today have medium jumbo frets it says on Fender's homepage. But you can't be sure that it hasn't been any changes since 2004/2005?!
Members Bro Blue
There have been limited runs of guitars with vintage frets since then (the 59/60 and the 60th Anniversary are two), but when they changed to medium jumbo frets they have been the standard fret size since then. If you google the exact model you can usually find which is which. Fender has a place on their site where you can look at the serial number and know what year the neck was made. Members mike-o
I'm pretty sure they had medium jumbo frets pre-2006 According to Warmoth, vintage frets are taller than MJ's... that can't be right can it?

Members mrbrown49
Ditto...mine says 03 by serial number but on the pickguard says Feb 2 2004 Your neck was probably made in late 03 and your guitar was assembled and inspected in early 04. Depends on the wire. Some jumbo frets are wide and low, and some are taller and thinner, and some are just big all around. You really need to know the crown width AND height to know what you are getting.
Members Bro Blue
You don't know any link or so about this? I can't find anything on google. http://www.fender.com/support/mexican_instruments.php The above link will help you put a date on the neck of the guitar. The necks are made and may be fitted to a body later than the date on the neck shows. http://www.fender.com/news/index.php?display_article=424http://www.edenhaus.com/frets.htm This gives a good visual of what fret sizes mean as compared to width and crown. MIMs prior to the move their "medium jumbo" used the 6230 wire. The easiest way to settle it is to date the neck and shoot Fender an e-mail asking them to confirm the fret size on your model. Members Florbastang
MIM Fender Standards definitely had vintage frets prior to 2006 (I actually thought 2007). Can't stand them!
Members csm
I prefer bigger-than-vintage frets -- which is what I went for back in the late '80s when my '63 Strat needed to be refretted.
