Members Norcal_GIT_r
Here's a custom set of 8 String Hot Rods wound for Tom Pettingil aka Quarter. These are going in a new build he's doing. This set uses 17 magnets per pickup, nickel baseplates, 4 conductor wire and are based on my Hot Rod Prototypes.
Members photon9
Looks sweet. That dude must have gigantic hands. I can't imagine trying to play an 8 string.
Members ten56gibby
Looks sweet. That dude must have gigantic hands. I can't imagine trying to play an 8 string. It'll be a lapsteel, so handsize won't affect much Cool stuff, Bryan! Looking forward to seeing what Quarter's going to build to fit these into
Members mnhhngbfs
nickel baseplates, huh? what kind of effect does that have on the pickup? i don't think i've ever heard of a nickel baseplate before.
Members Quarter
Sweet! ... Looking forward to giving them a workout! They are going in a 2 pickup lap steel build I'm working on. The tops will get a set of decorative maple and mahogany wood toppers in a zebra type fashion. The steel will be an 8 string version of one of my Teardrop models similar to the below example. . Members Quarter
nickel baseplates, huh? what kind of effect does that have on the pickup? i don't think i've ever heard of a nickel baseplate before. They are nickel silver and are historically the preferred material for humbucker covers and base plates due to their transparency.

Members vintage clubber
ok...I'm confused...where is the 17th magnet?? I see 16 on each...
Members Norcal_GIT_r
ok...I'm confused...where is the 17th magnet?? I see 16 on each... It's a bar magnet that runs under the pickup between the poles like on a standard humbucker. It's essentially a mini MRI machine.

Members Quarter
We will have to see how they sound in an 8 string config, but here is Bryans demo of the 6 string HotRod prototypes that they are based on. .[video=youtube;UflzsIIOD_c]
Members vintage clubber
ok. So the original hot rods actually had 13 magnets??
Members Norcal_GIT_r
ok, can you please elaborate on how the bar magnet interacts with the pole magnets and what that means soundwise?? It increases the magnetic field so Tom can run the pickup lower as alot of steel do while still getting the response of a hot pickup. This set is pumping A5 mags so it will be a pretty full sounding set.
