Members wanderoo222
NOT a troll thread. Please don't bash Epiphone or Gibson. Just want to know what u think from a practical standpoint. When it comes to guitars I am hardly practical. I was looking for a low priced gibson in this color for a while now on CL. But I came across this and the reviews look good. My expierence with Epi has been very good. Do you think this guitar is a good value. I could get it for $510 new from MF. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-les-paul-tribute-plus-electric-guitar Thanks for the input. Members wanderoo222
Im happy with mine 2. What is ur opinion of this particular one. I realize Epi's lose about half thier value but most sub $2000 gibsons seem to lose about 300-500 also. So I'm not concerned about that aspect. Members vintage clubber
I haven't tried one specifically. Do you have a good sized store nearby that would have some in stock that you can actually play?
Members cbh5150
I've been eyeing those as well. What is grabbing me is the neck profile, pickups, and case. If it is anywhere near as good as the MIC Slash AFD LP, then at this price it's a great deal already. The is also a new version of the Epi LP Custom called the Pro that has the so-far well-reviewed Epi Probucker pickups and a HSC for $549.

Members Chumer
I have three Epiphone electrics and I think they are really great; I don't see how you can go wrong with the one you've chosen, assuming they have a reasonable return policy on the chance there is a problem with it. Members BeanoBoy
I'm a big believer in quality pickups. The Classic '57s with coil splitting options, make this Epi look like winner to me.

I'm not entirely sure about that...the faded finishes are not as nice as the satins or poly gloss, plus they are dime-a-dozen, so resale value is not as great as it appears. OTOH, the aforementioned Epi Slash AFD LP I picked up for mint at $400 I ended up selling for $800. They retail at $999 new, so I doubled my invesment, and sold at 80% of new. The Tributes are much better speced than the Standards, so...
Members MarkBastable
I have an Epiphone LP and it has served me well for years. I upgraded the pickups - but I don't think you'd have to with that one. So, I'd say the question is, what are your alternatives for the price? Looking at ebay in the US, it seems that you might pick up a second hand Studio for the sort of money that that Epi would cost you new. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gibson-Les-Paul-Studio-/160787742890?pt=Guitar&hash=item256fb240aa http://www.ebay.com/itm/Untouched-Gibson-Les-Paul-Studio-Vintage-Cherry-Satin-Finish-USA-Made-NO-RESERVE-/330722039061?pt=Guitar&hash=item4d0091d515 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gibson-Les-Paul-Studio-1999-/320894230926?pt=Guitar&hash=item4ab6c9618e ..so it'll come down to your personal take on the pros and cons. Epi: new guitar, established and trustworthy vendor, returns policy, after sales service, opportunity to try before you buy, you get precisely what you want, maybe. Studio: used guitar, taking a bit of a gamble buying from eBay, more intrinsic value for your buck, debatably better quality instrument, no return policy, no after sales service, probably more status. I know which way I'd go....
Members orion23
Check out the review tweak'd did when he got one back in November http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?2844314-NGD-Epiphone-Les-Paul-1960-Tribute-Plus Also some great comments on this model over at My Les Paul Forums under the Epiphone Les Paul sub forum When you factor in how much the Gibson 57's and case cost alone, hard to pass this one up. Also apparently the neck has a long neck tenon. Not your standard Epi neck.

They have been asking $500 to $550 for a while now and can't seem to sell them. For $510 new with case seems like a no brainer. I'm going to order it to day. Thanks everyone. Members HanSolo
I would jump on that Epiphone. The weakest link in Epi's are the pickups and those are upgraded on that model. Also, I would be perfectly comfortable ordering an Epiphone on-line, sight unseen. They are mass produced to high quality standards with little tweaking needed. I've owned a bunch over the years and from a finish and playability standpoint, they were all fine.

Members BryanMichael
I wouldn't have at $600, but at $400 it would be a no-brainer. I got my Pro FX on closeout for about $400 and it is definitely a great guitar in that price range. I'm selling it though since I've discovered PRS SE's...
