Members slickrick1688
What kind of music do you play and how much would you be willing to spend? What kind of sound are you looking for in a ride? Something pingy or something that is washy and crashable? Something dry or something with more overtones? Members mparsons
I am a guitarist who is getting into drums as a side thing, just for fun I will primarily be playing heavy metal. I guess pingy would describe what I want, but if its possible with a longer decay and a bright tone Most I really want to spend on this is $100-150, which is why ebay is probably going to be where I buy Thanks EDIT: Also, would these cymbals be a good deal, for a starting kit? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Wuhan-S-Series-WUSCR161818-Crash-Pack-?sku=445868

Members 1001gear
These guys are absolutely right. I have one and it is definitely the standard in entry level Rock rides. I got mine because of some old Mottley (sp?) Crue tune. It got old real fast. The tone is on the cymballic side of cowbell; a good effect cymbal but to big and heavy to be practical. I hate it!,!,... but its a keeper. IMO rock rides aren't that popular. You may be able to score a Zildjian heavy or ping or a variety of more versatile ware at a pawnshop for very little cash. Members twosticks
Might be able to get a used AA Sabian or A Zildjian used for the same money. Also look at music store cosignments/pawn shops/classifieds. Does e-bay have a way for you to hear the cymbal before you buy it? I have a Sabian 20" dry ride (which I bought used) That could work for metal or other music. Sometimes the cymbal sound you're looking for will come from a type of cymbal you didn't exspect. Is why it is essential to try to play before you buy. I want to say I paid $120.00 for a cymbal that new sells for over $300? In other words might be able to get a better cymbal than a B-8. Nothing wrong with B-8s. IMO they are just a little "too focused" on their overtones. Is hard to get more "beefiness" out them when you need to. Just my two cents... good luck
Members MattACaster
My local Music Go Round has like 4 Zildjian A and Z Custom rides from $99 up to $150.
Members rockbeat
I have a 22" Zildjian A ride that I bought used for $100. It produces a bright ping when I play on or near the bell, but has a nice musical wash whan I play it nearer the edge.
Members JSimms
What is the cheapest acceptable ride cymbal? The one that sounds the best for the least amount of money. I don't mean to be glib, but it depends on a lot.
