What's disturbing is that no one really knows what is going on in the prisons these days. With Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, etc... torture is now part of our policy and everything is kept secret under the guise of national security. I'd say blame would also lie with the government sources who gave this information. Shouldn't those sources be at least partially responsible? It's almost as if Karl Rove arranged the release of this false info just to later be able to turn around and blame the media to take the heat off of the white house for a while. It just reminds me of Schiavo and activist judges. Create an issue to get people worked up over and then point the blame.

It's easy to blame the media. Fox news makes just as many "mistakes" as the other organisations but I don't see anyone being fired or stepping down over there. Jeff Gannon in the white house barely even gets mentioned in the mainstream media so nothing's really shocking about the spin on this story.

What about the hypocrisy of the white house? They have lied and screwed things up plenty and yet no one gets fired or apologizes, they just get promoted. This is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. How exactly do you flush a book down a toilet anyway?

Man, I hate politics.

It is odd, however, that Muslims can burn the USofA flag and no one raises an eyebrow, except to prevent anyone else from protesting AGAINST flag-burning. I am fairly sure that some Bibles have been burned as well. But, some American "allegedly" flushes a few pages down a toilet and 16-17 people die???

[spock] I fail to see the logic, Captain. [/spock]

Welcome to a democracy. I would feel that I would be within my "rights" to protest and flush a few pages. . . . not that I ever intend to do so.

Wait, so it's a government ploy to convince us that the aliens really think we're too stupid so that we don't bother too much with trying to contact the aliens, leaving those that still think it's a government conspiracy to be labled cooks and wierdos by the general public when, in reality, they're actually right and we're the ones being duped while the government gets trained on the alien technology to continue their plans of secret world domination through the Tri-Lateral Commission and Free Mason's groups?

Damnit!

I'm pissed cause they made me write such a damned long run-on sentence!:p:D

Can you guys tell it's been a long day of oncall for me? Stupid systems. Just stay up, damnit!

What about From Genesis to Revelation? I could never sit through that one, while Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, Selling England By the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway are amazing albums.

After that, it all seems like Phil Collins and beer commercials.

Blech.

I'd hate to sound this negative, but I doubt they even care now. They're probably just going to whip out another "our thoughts and prayers are with you" or whatever and not change anything.

Very good read though.

(snip)

The magazine has blood on its pages regardless. The magazine caused a geopolitical storm injurious to the countrymen of its own editors and reporters regardless.

You know, despite the fact that Newsweek generally makes me want to barf, I have to call "bull{censored}" on this writer's point.

Newsweek did NOT kill anybody--rioters did. And a magazine should generally not withold stories on the basis of how people in Pakistan (or elsewhere) would react, because they have no control over it. The only exceptions would be with regard to direct threats to national security--and this doesn't qualify.

Newsweek was highly irresponsible for publishing a story they could not substantiate. But this logic absolves the rioters of the deaths and injuries they caused.

Are you saying it's not? We can barely get our youth to speak proper english in this country, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I haven't been able to understand a thing my youngest daughter has said since she was 10. I have to ask her big sister to translate for me.

Please explain how that is the fault of "the liberal media" rather than {censored}ty parenting. Show your work.

I never said anything about the Liberal media, I only meant to express my opinion that our society(in the US) is going down the {censored}ter. I don't care about placing blame, I'd rather concentrate on reversing the problem. I agree that {censored}ty parenting is becoming more of a problem now than it used to be.

Sorry. This thread is basically a slagfest against any reportage not given under a loyalty oath. I "ass-u-me'd" your comment was in that context.

Don't worry about it. I find that all liberals tend to generalize like this.

No problem. I'm not sure even where I stand politicly. I'm pretty sure I'd be considered a social conservative, no idea about my economic stance. I'm an agnostic and lean heavily toward socialism and states rights. I'm also a big fan of natural selection.

Context is possibly the most important factor of any problem.

Yes, from what I see over on this side of the lake, America's society is going down the drain, with the UK closely following, and the rest of Europe along with it.

Cyprus is about 20 years behind the rest of Europe socially, but I'd imagine our culture being flushed pretty soon as well.

All societies everywhere are going down. So?
