Members kenm
Hey All, I was hoping to get a distortion pedal for my bass player for the holidays. He currently uses a Boss DS-1. Do you have other suggestions? Thanks! Ken

Members lug
Cheap but pretty good - Ibanez PD7 Phathead. Expensive - Fulltone Also Expensive - Wooly Mammoth Weird and Expensive - Ampeg Scrambler

Members Tag
If you really want "distortion", and not just "overdrive": Zvex Wooly Mammoth.

Members sciamu
What about Gallien Krueger DieselDawg? http://www.gallien-krueger.com/products_artist_ac_dd.html#
Members SpaceGhost
(Original) Marshall Guv'nor or the Full Tone bass driver. You can pick up the former for less that a third of the Fulltone but the Full tone keeps low end intact (which is a key thing using distortion on bass). However, I like the tone of the Guv'nor which sounds like faux-cranked Marshalls but it eats low end.
Members bottomfeeder
hopefully I will have a bass pedal available that with be somewhat like the Guvnor but not so tone sucking for bass. wish me luck
Members SatansEnemy
i have to say that i love my BUDDA Phatbass... not cheap at all... its a tube overdrive, and with the right tubes can be outright nasty... to me the 12at7's that come with it when they get warm i have to set the gain around 40% i love it, the harder you play the nastier the sound... tubes!!! cant beat them!!! of course thats my happy opinion
Members Thumper
Tube Works Blue Tube. Lots of 12AX7 tube goodness, plus a useful EQ.
Members syciprider
The Tech21 XXL is a damned good drive pedal. For distortion, I use a Digitech Bass Driver and an American Woman (which is a very dirty OD).
