So why do people still paint pictures of Jesus as white?

Assuming the Shroud of Turin is genuine (which is a whole another story), supposedly the man who has been wrapped in it can't have had dark hair, which together with the fact that it's not very likely he could've been born there white normally, makes the conclusion that he was an albino feasible. I've heard it in the news a year or two ago, but google doesn't yield much.

I seem to remember hearing about it that it was dated to around 1200 and that some people think it was actually made by Leonardo da Vinci...

But also that scientists later found out that the dating might have been faulty and that the vatican haven't allowed a new testing since. I can see why...

The faulty dating is supposedly explained by a fire around that time.

The biggest erm... mystery is how one would actually make a print of a man on a shroud that would look anything like it.

According to forensic specialist, this is what they think Jesus resembled.

Jesus_Jew.jpg

Which is a lot more believable than the typical white dude we see. I think Christian artists early on started to make Jesus look more european to make Christianity more appealing.

Damn, jesus looks confused... unless the forensic scientists were "projecting."

The resemblance is uncanny:

The story is shaky anyway. How hard is it to figure out who is the boss in a religious group?:p

The shroud was proved to be a fake and Jesus was a Sefardic Jew. They have the characteristics of a 'black' man...all the way from dark skin and kinky hair.

When was the Shroud proved to be fake? Not that I think it's real I've just never heard about that. Please quote your source. As far as I know the Vatican haven't allowed anyone to test it since '88.

In 1980 the shroud was dated to 1355 by microscopy and 1325 by C-14 dating.
