He would like to keep it under $400, and he plays all styles of music (not much slap though). Any recomendations on something inexpensive and reliable with a good sound. A hand selected MIM Fender Standard is also nice (but there are some dogs out there too). Also look for used Highway 1 Fenders, you can sometimes get a good value on them. I got a Highway 1 P-Bass a few weeks ago (first series Hwy1 from 2004) and I really like it. It was used, but really seems to play nicely. Man he has been using my crappy bass for nearly a year now (he lost his in a divorce). He now has purchased his standard playing unit but he needs a good backup (mine is not soo good).
