Members justinbass
I recently started playing with a metronome to learn harder/faster parts. I take a riff that I can't play at speed, and play it at 100bmp, than 104, 108, ect until I have it down at 20 bpm faster than I need to know it. After that, playing it at speed seems easy and slow. I just spent the last hour playing the same 4 bars over and over and over. It has helped me recently A LOT, and that's that.
Members Super Bass
I've just started to use one too, like JUST started. Last week Its much better. Its helping me because I'm trying to read music and I can do it at my own pace now.
Members chubrocker
I thought JB was all about using metronomes? He's all about "practice, practice, practice" and "read music, read music, read music."

Members Fiery Furnace
I tried to metronome whenever I could but it got annoying sometimes. Then I bought a drum machine... it made it a lot easier, it's a lot more natural to play along with then a constant beep. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to improve their chops; I picked up an Alesis SR-16 for $40 and it's an excellent drum machine.
Members rummy
When I was learning hard guitar solos, I always used a metronome. I find that learning slapping is very similiar to shredding, and can be achieved with a metronome pretty easily.
Members Zebra
Some things that help me with a metronome: pick a tempo and stick with it for a while. Like 20 minutes or something. If you change tempos, take a little break in between. Switching from one tempo to another on a dime will mess with your head a little, since that old click is still ringing in your head. Especially if the two tempos are similar.
