Members PaulyWally
WTF do you do?!?? Yeah... I'm just babbling. So if you don't want to hear it, move along. Nothing to see here. I've been in a rut now for the better part of 3 years. I feel like I need a career change or something. I'm just not content with where I'm at in life. Don't get me wrong, I've got a good-paying job. I have no debt. Great friends. Etc... I'm very thankful for all that. I just can't seem to shake this cloud over my head. Anyone ever been there? What'd you do? Talk to me, baby. Members Mudbass
Now if you're feeling miserable, if you're feeling blue, Here's a little ditty that'll help to pull you through, All the clouds will disappear, the grey skies turn to blue: Just stick your finger in your ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo. Now suppose you've got the fell pest, the gout and goose's cough, A severe attack of hiccups and your kneecap's just dropped off, The surgeon says "We'd operate, but the anaesthetic's gone," You just look up and smile at him and say "You carry on." "I'll stick me finger in me ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo, Me finger in me ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo, I'll just be like Nelson at the Battle of Waterloo, I'll stick me finger in me ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo." Now in '14 and in '39, war raised its ugly head, The bombs they fell on England, and one fell on my shed, But we fought and beat the Germans 'cos we knew just what to do: We stuck our fingers in our ears and went ting-a-ling-a-loo. Prince Philip said "Get your fingers out" and that cut me to the quick, We got our fingers out, but that didn't do the trick; So follow your true leaders with all your might and main: Be like Jenkins, Heath and Wilson and stick 'em back again! Oh stick your finger in your ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo, Your finger in your ear and go ting-a-ling-a-loo, Remember what old Gladstone said in 1892: Stick your finger in your ear and go ting... a... ling... a... loo! Members Pickdust
I made down-ade? Regretabley, its not as tasty as lemonade but it is quite filliing! Seriously, I was where you are now a couple of years ago. I tried counseling and it really didn't hit the spot although it may for you. I ended up lowering my expectations bar to a point where I found my "one thing" per day, that's reserved entirely for me; then I make sure I do it. Mine is usually music oriented but it can be anything! I call it my "one selfish act" of the day. For some reason this has made all the difference in my out look and I'm a happier person as a result; not giddy mind you ........just happier. In a culture that seems to thrive on complexity I strive for simplicity because.....well....for me ....simple = happy. Hope this helps some. Members bholder
i think you need to locate the sources of your discontempt and take it from there, fix it one by one... "Discontempt" is not a word, but it seems like it ought to be. Like, everything you say in court that does not really piss off the judge - that's "discontempt". Members bnyswonger
Some good advice up there - especially about getting outdoors & getting some excercise. It's also helpful to find someone else to help. Volunteer for a bit - soup kitchen, big brother, tutoring, whatever.

Keep busy, keep moving forward, stay in touch with friends, and treat yourself - a CD, a nice meal at a restaurant, a DVD whatever (don't go crazy!). Try and figure out what's getting you down and deal with it head on in a productive, realistic, *pragmatic* manner. I know what it's like to be in a very comfortable situation where you think (like the Strokes!) "Is this it?" and you should keep moving forward and challenging yourself in some way. Members chunky-b
Take vitamins. (And I am the worst about this)... Proper nutrition greatly affects your state of mind. Lack of certain vitamins make you more depressed, worried, stressed, etc. I can tell when I feel a little down or off and I am usually not eating healthy or taking my vitamins. This will not cure it, but it can lesson it.
