This is probably a case of where price does not necessarily equal quality. A lot of custom basses from small, relatively unknown luthiers have terrible resale value even though they might be built incredibly well. If it had a popular name like Sadowsky attached to it, you can bet it would command top dollar, even though the quality might not be any better (not a knock against Sadowsky in any way).

Goes to show that if you buy a custom bass, you need to know that there is a risk level that needs to be accepted, as well as the fact that you are spending money that you will never be able to get back. I am convinced that the right builder and the right design is the best way to get a truly special bass, but it is not guaranteed to be a success no matter what. If you can handle the risk, the unknowns, and can afford to spend and be out of the money it's a great thing and a super rewarding process to go through. It's not for everyone though...
