Members mstreck
One of our favorite bartenders asked her manager to schedule us on her birthday so she can take off and party with us. We'd like to help her make it a night to remember. Is there anything special we can do as a band to make this "her" night without alienating our regular audience? I mean something more than singing happy birthday and having everyone buy her shots. That's gonna happen anyhow. Thanks! Mike

Members wardjames
I find the best happy birthday strategy is to force the birthday girl to dance solo on the dance floor while the band plays "Happy Birthday" and the audience sings along. Simple, but effective.

YMMV, it may not work with your audience, it's always worked well with mine.
Members mstreck
We already bring people up on stage and sing HB to them. Of course, after you do it once, then EVERYONE seems to have a birthday that night. So we'll sing HB one more time towards the end of the night (to all of them at once) and keep things movin' on from there. This is the girl that we'll randomly yell "WE LOVE YOU, KELLY!" to over the mic between songs. We met her a few years ago back when she used to work at another venue and shortly after she switched to the new place she demanded to the management that we get booked there - and we've been playing there ever since. Members YeahDoIt
Keep announcing to the audience that it's her birthday. I was in the audience at one show where somebody - probably an audience member - brought a birthday cake, cut it up and passed it out to everyone. You also need to figure out a way to get a bunch of her friends out for the gig. A special table for them with decorations,, balloons and stuff. Members MDLMUSIC
I always slap on the Elvis wig and do a rocking version of HB. Usually gets everyone on the dance floor and if the birthday girl or guy has had enough to drink, it gets really wild.
