As Andy said. Are you trying to add mainly volume and carry or are you trying to spread the sound?

Rule of thumb? ...generally you want to stack 'em with the horns as close together as possible. Flip the second one and put it on top (stack vertically). You will have some problems with the vertical pattern where the patterns overlap, but not too many with the horizontal. This is usually the best solution unless you are playing the Royal Albert Hall (4 balconies). It's usually the horz pattern that is the most critical.

If you line them up you will reduce the vertical pattern ... usually a good thing. You'll get a bit more "throw". If you need to increase the horizontal just spaly the two cabinets ... in which case you won't get more throw but you'll get a wider pattern.

Marty McCann wrote a pretty good paper about this if you want some more details ... http://www.peavey.com/support/technotes/soundsystems/govertical.cfm

Nothing changes. It still depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you splaying for wider crowd coverage, going for maximum carry and SPL,or what? Either way,I think most would agree that you want the VC's as close to each other as possible.

Directly side by side (horz) you would need to splay them at least 60 degrees to avoid a ton of phase cancellations. Think of three horns with the drivers all next to each other ... then pull out the center one.

Do you really need 180 degree horz. coverage?

Well, the echo off the side walls of the venue will be louder ..... or the feedback to the front line vocal mics will be louder ... :D

Want it louder? - stack them vertically!

Cheers
