Members Shovelhead
I have a chance to buy a Crest X-Four 32 series console for 1500, in mint condition. Is it a no-brainer? Major limitation seems to be 4 subgroups. http://www.directproaudio.com/product.cfm?directid=53813

Members Shovelhead
Do you really need to ask ? The main reason I'm asking is that I don't really need it. I need a console that weighs less, and has a smaller footprint. My thought is that if it's a good enough deal, I should be able to turn it and buy an A&H GL series board. It looks like a great deal. It's in a permanent install (a church) where there is no smoking, no food, no drink, and it has never been moved.
Members RoadRanger
I feel your pain. No way do I anticipate needing a 32 ch board but at that price I'd try to figure out some use for it - even if it was just to barter it for a 24 ch from someone looking to "upgrade" . CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted May 13, 2009 CMS Author Share Posted May 13, 2009 Sounds good. In fact, too good. Check the console very carefully, be sure everything works.
Members agedhorse
Excellent console, better than the A&H IMO. I used to service Crest consoles, still do occasionally.

Members Square
The old Crest's are good consoles, but I am curious.... in the link you provided, it shows the "32" channel as really being a 24 channel with 4 stereo channels, which to me is not a 32 input console. Also, how old is this thing? Where is the closest service center? Crest got bought out by Peavey a few years back. Do they still support this board? While it is a good board, how much more is it to buy a 32 channel Soundcraft GB2, or A&H Zed32 of GL2400-32? These would be new consoles, with a known history (i.e none) and a known support base. Just some things to think about.
Members agedhorse
Is that the 4 subgroup model of the X-Eight? Yes, modular front access in groups of 4 channels per module.
