Members madball24
I tried running pink noise from my laptop into my mixer via the direct out on my allen and heath mixer and the instructions for gain setting is to clip at the board and then turn it down until it just doesnt clip. But the pink noise wouldnt clip on the board. Idk if it was cause it was a low quality file or if it was the laptop. How can i get pink noise high enough for it to clip?? Should i use ipod or what? thanks
Members Square
I usually plug the pink noise/sound source into a channel on the mixer. This lets me use the gain knob on the channel to adjust the input level. Exactly where are you plugging the laptop into the mixer?

Members Axisplayer
Why plug into a direct out? You would have better luck plugging into an input.

Members RoadRanger
Why plug into a direct out? You would have better luck plugging into an input. ... because if you plug a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" TRS cable between a laptop or ipod and a balanced input you get zilch on mono material and stereo stuff sound weird and out-of-phase possibly missing the vocals . I've seen this commonly done . What the OP needs is a 1/8" stereo cable to TWO 1/4" TS mono plugs that is plugged into two different line inputs or the two line inputs of a stereo channel or stereo aux return: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/337272.html (Note that the picture is incorrect)
