Members Count Dissident
I am looking for a pair of subs to match with QSC HPR152i mains. It appears that the HPR subs are now discontinued,so what would be a good choice to go with now? Money isn't the biggest factor but I would like to keep it in the $1500 to $2000 range with a little wiggle room on the top end. The style of music is heavy rock/metal. Thanks!! Members The Chinese
SRX 728. Beyond your budget, but maybe 1 for now and another later. For metal, you need big subs- Almost bigger than EDM
Members RoadRanger
Tough to do subs for heavy rock/metal for $2000. Maybe a pair of used Peavey SP218 with a used QSC RMX4050HD to drive them?
Members stangconv
I am going to order a Wharfedale DLX-218. I am going to run an A/B test with a Yorkville LS1004. The specs on the DLX look pretty wicked, but who really knows?

Members stangconv
Yeah but I cant find any reviews.... wanna see/hear And half the price of the Yorkvilles brand new....
Members philw44
You don't get something for nothing with Subs. The Yorkville is 600W RMS compared the 1600W RMS for the Wharfedale. The extra cost required in amp power will probably take it upto the price of the yorkville. Both are just a variation on the G-SUB design with different port tunings / drivers. http://www.speakerplans.com/index.php?id=gsub
Members RoadRanger
The newest Peavey SP218 appears to have separate compartments for the two drivers - does anybody know if that is true? The advantage of that is that if you blow one driver it won't unload the other causing it to also fail .
Members abzurd
Why not just get the HPR subs? They are still available. You may even be able to score a good price since they are being phased out.
Members Count Dissident
Thanks to all of you for the responses! It seems there are a few HPRs floating around but most places are out of stock now and all of the ones I have seen are only slightly discounted if at all. It also seems I may be able to purchase a pair of Yorkville LS700p or LS720p in my price range. How would either of those match up with the HPR152i? Members flanc
I'd get a pair of these. If you can only afford one now then save a bit more and get the second later. http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-SRX728S-Power-Subwoofer-SRX728-S-MAKE-OFFER-/110553243641?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bd7c9ff9#ht_4996wt_1195 By the way...I've offered these guys lower prices before and they've accepted. Members Count Dissident
Maybe they are heavy rock and play at sensible volumes..Surely not! Unfortunately no, our drummer is a basher and it doesnt appear that that is going to change anytime soon. Therefor,we are loud. Since the Yorkville subs will not be suitable for metal,am I to understand that the HPR151i or the HPR181i would not be enough either? For that matter, what is the biggest room that the HPR152i will push before I need to add to those?
Members abzurd
I have a pair of ES700P's (same as the LS700P) in the garage. I've only used them 2 times in the last 24 months. They are OK, but aren't low end monsters. They'll put a little thump on the dance floor. Great output for their size, but not necessarily at the frequencies you desire from a sub. They have a lot of 100 - 150 Hz, but nothing at all under 50 Hz. Not really what I'd consider a "heavy rock/metal" sub.
Members monthlymixcd
I've seen used pairs of MRX528s go for less than $1200 on CL... that'd leave you serious money for the right amp to run them.
Members Bobby1Note
Danley TH-115's,,,,,, end of thread. Also, I'd be flabbergasted is the Yorkville LS-1004's wouldn't do. Great sounding sub IMO.

Members RoadRanger
For that matter, what is the biggest room that the HPR152i will push before I need to add to those?Maybe 300 if you cross them over with the subs relatively high (125hz ?) and you have enough subs to keep up with them. If the drummer requires drums in his monitor to hear them over the Marshall stacks maybe half that (150) .
