Members t_e_l_e
hi,those 3 are sweet little amps, but somewaht not comparable. the excelsior has a 15" speaker with 13W which will be loudenough for almost any bandthe vaporizer has 2x10" speaker which also makes it loud enough for almost anythingand the ac4 with 1x10" you said you want something for home, does this imply bedroom volume?volume wise the ac4 will be the lowest one, and will have also a different sound.i would love to play all 3 of them, haveing a fender deluxe clone which is similar to the vaporizer and excelsior i would choose the ac4, cause i have nothing similar to it
Moderators daddymack Posted June 1, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 1, 2016 I concur on the AC4, but even it can get a bit loud in a small room; that said, swap the stock tubes out and you have a neat little recording/practice amp that will overdrive nicely when pushed. The Vaporizer is a very interesting amp, but it's best sound is the wide open Vaporizer circuit, which has to be controlled from the guitar's volume, and 12W through 2 10" speakers is pretty loud for bedroom practice. The reverb is interesting as well, btw. I owned one briefly, but it did not work for the gig for which I wanted it; almost, but not quite. I suppose, if you put an overdrive pedal in front of it on the 'normal' channel, it would certainly do the job you are looking to accomplish....but then, most amps would. I am not personally a fan of the Excelsior, as I have played through several over a number of months. The tonestack is too flat and the stock speaker is flabby at mid volumes. With no master and no reverb, it just kind of sits there, and the controls are poorly laid out. If you are a 'modder' there are plenty of things which will help this amp, but stock? Meh...
