Members DeepEnd
GAS indeed. Be still my heart, I have found my next bass. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/msg/4694219394.html Here we have a Peavey Neck attached to an unknown body with a cool blue green/paris hilton spray paint theme. Two pickups. One of which isn't attached to anything and the other of which is wired directly to the output jack and is ungrounded. And a bridge that's missing a screw but currently features part of a coat hanger in its place.
Members WRGKMC
Ugg. Are you serious or are you being sarcastic? If you're serious you're going to need some major work on that one and wind up spending as much as you wouldjust buying one of these. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/...77428000002001 I don't get the rubber band thing that's being used as a saddle screw. Maybe he thought it would give him better bounce to the notes. Maybe he thought that's how they get the bass sound on this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKbADFJOCkU or Guitarzan or
Members DeepEnd
Ugg. Are you serious or are you being sarcastic? . . . . . . I don't get the rubber band thing that's being used as a saddle screw. . . . Good Lord no, I'm not serious. I just thought it would be fun to post that particular Frankenbass. The "rubber band thing" is a piece of coathanger just like the description says. If it were real cheap--I mean even cheaper than it is, say $10--it might have potential. The neck and tuners appear to be all right and those are Wilkinson pickups--not Seymour Duncans but not absolute junk. The bridge might be salvageable with a new saddle screw and spring. You'd need to shell out for a body, pickguard, pots and knobs, and yeah, you'd be better off buying a decent bass but it might be a fun project. There's an Ibanez P/J-Bass body on eBay going for $25 BIN+$15 shipping. Say, $30 for knobs, pots, and strap buttons plus a bit of woodworking to make the neck fit, and you have a decent, unique bass. Then again, it might not fit your definition of "fun."
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted November 10, 2014 CMS Author Share Posted November 10, 2014 I think the neck is attached with deck screws. You have to respect anyone who can repurpose parts like deck screws into a musical instrument AND can make paint slough like that.
Members DeepEnd
^ Hadn't noticed that but you could be right. I was entranced by the description. Since there's part of a coat hanger holding one of the bridge saddles in place, the neck could be held on with just about anything.
