Members Vito Corleone
Working on a 90s medley/mashup idea right now with bits of Unbelievable/Free Your Mind/Wannabe/Jump Around/Tubthumpin' in there. And probably a few other things that can work with the beat and feel.

Members sventvkg
A Couple things...This band is NOT for bars and clubs. ONLY private events. The only bar gigs i'm going to do are higher profile lie BB Kings, House of Blues, Hard Rock etc which are more like promotion for private events gigs. All my bands are built on a framework with the whole show incorporated. Lights, video, dress etc. I don't know if the list would differ because of my different focus. Also, having played all these song in the 90's I don't recall ever thinking of any of them as "DANCE TUNES" Per se...I don't know if they ALL need to be for private events. I do want MOST of them to be upbeat and fun but i'm selling a nostalgia thing here, bringing the "vibe" of the 90's to the client for the night so it might be OK that they aren't all Dance. Maybe I'm off though.. I'm assuming you are going for club/bar/events where people are there to dance and party. My comments are based on that assumption. Members backtoblue
Nice list, it's gives me some ideas. Anyone ever attempt "Connected" by Stereo MC's? Kind of a guilty pleasure of mine that I always thought would be fun. I don't know if it's "pull-off-able" though.

Maybe I'm off though.. No, I don't think you are off here. In fact, I think you're spot on. My take on the tribute band thing: A tribute band is going to take you down a couple of different paths than a typical private event band. 1) it isn't as necessary to be a dance band. Like you said, you want most of the material to be upbeat and fun but most important is you're selling the vibe. So yeah, you no doubt want to be doing those grunge standards like Teen Spirit, Alive, Black Hole Sun, Man In A Box etc. even if they aren't danceable and even a bit of a downer. 2) You are going to want be doing the bigger show clubs and casino gigs. By niching the band so tightly you narrow the number of private events you're appropriate for, BUT the other side of that coin is you can sell yourself as a $15 a head "concert" act at the bigger night clubs. And building that public profile also increases your marketability for the private event gigs and increases how much you can charge for them as well. And, as always, it's ALL about the marketing. Sell it as a big deal and you probably will be.
Members sventvkg
Yup, that's exactly my plan for all my bands Guido. I want OUT of the lowest rung in the music business, the BAR SCENE!! I'm doing the bar/tiki beach thing when I get to FL in a couple months just to get some quick $$ coming in until enough to the private events stuff gets up and running to where I can replace the bar income. Then I will just use the solo acoustic beach $150-$200 a gig thing for fill in stuff in the slow season:)
Members wesg
We play a couple of those songs, in an older-crowd dance oriented bar band. Hard To Handle kill every time. Kryptonite is our heaviest song (next is Rockin' in the Free World) and we play it really well...but we sometimes get the "WTF was that" stare from the audience. Oddly the 50 year olds like that one better than the 35 year olds. This was an interesting list, I'm 41 and didn't realize I liked that many 90s songs. I kind tuned out in the 90s. Since you're doing corporates, you might want to think about "If I Had a Million Dollars", because all those MBA punks are wishing that every day. BNL's Gordon came out in '93 if I'm not mistaken. I've always wanted to "Why Don't You Get a Job" by The Offspring. To me, it's such a great feel-good song. But you have to be careful of context, I guess you can't say "bitch" at a corporate function. The Friends sound track came out with a nice collection of super-popular poppy songs in '95 or so. "I Go Blind", the Hootie version, was on there. Hey, how about "Spoonman"? I bet that would kill for the right crowd. Wes
