Stuff like this might bring me back. My only quible is the predictable drums (Yngwie's drummer burned that beat out long ago, then of course Portnoy in Dream Theatre) I won't speak to the imagery cuz that's part of the genre and I'm just an old fart... Not too shabby...

Instead of sounding like ants scurrying everywhere, it was the sound of the clouds slowly moving, the currents swirling and the wind blowing......They were onto something. Sometimes Mike, you're just right on. I couldn't agree more. out of all the music shown here on this thread, Floyd is the only one which issues any kind of emotive response to me. The rest doesn't impress me any more than watching some kid completely pwn Dance Dance Revolution on super-mega-happy-extreme mode. I guess you could call it talent, sure - but not the enviable kind. That's completely your opionion though man. Music taste is so subjective. I posted a Children of Bodom vid in response to the Floyd video just to be silly - I completely agree that there is no comparison. It's two different styles of music and Pink Floyd are legends in our time. However - just because you dont get an emotive response from someone playing the living {censored} out of their instrument doesnt mean someone else doesnt. It's inspiring to see someone with superhuman ability...and yeah if used excessive it DOES get old fast (post Moore era Dream Theater a perfect example). But there's times when complete excess just has to put a smile on your face: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wwJrl5b5m2o Come on, look at the keytar and the high-speed video game licks and tell me you dont love it

I dig all kinds of genres - heck, I'm playing in an alt-country/americana band now; previous to that I played in a classic rock covers outfit. I guess I'm one of those people that can enjoy many different types of music.
Members ElectricPuppy
Here's what I see. Those metal bands seem to value the performance over the music, while Floyd seemd to value the music over the performance. I much prefer the later, whether it's Floyd or not. IMHO. There's no point in arguing because we all have our own opinion on it, but like wades said it's really dependant on the genre. It really depends what I'm in the mood for...one day it will be ambient electronic the next day death metal. It's all good and I love it just the same

I am immediately turned off by it, in fact. Of couse it's subjective, that's why I can say with complete impunity that it's crap - how can you prove me wrong? Would you like me to qualify with "I think that..."? I mean, I wouldn't go into a thread that was about showcasing players who demonstrate a very high level of technical proficience and bash them (okay, on a bad day I might - but when all's said and done, I would disapprove of my own conduct! ). Some people appreciate shredding. I have my own (strong) opinions on the subject, but I don't really think it's right to impose those opinions on those who feel differently, at least not on their own territory. But this was a thread showcasing a Pink Floyd performance, which is something entirely different. Here, on this thread, I have no problem being quite a bit more vocal about my distaste for such music. To me, it's sort of like going into a thread about vintage pinup art and posting a link to some kind of CG'd anime tentacle rape pic. Excessive, tasteless, and pretty geeky. Members Awake77
Well damn man I didnt mean to be offensive. I thought this was a 'this is how its done' thread - not genre specific. I was just bein silly really... No doubt, the Pink Floyd performance was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. And to think my next post was going to be tentacle porn:D (just kidding)

Members Diametro
"I believe these guys had invented the new rock music subgenre - Gay Metal!" Sorry, but even the 'mo-est of Marys wouldn't take himself so seriously festooned with a keytar ... The way these things are designed right now ... BTW ... Isn't all metal just a little gay? ... Satan imagery (gay) ... Mostly guys (uh huh) ... chicks that look like drag queens (check) ... long hair, tight leather pants, chains and straps ... Welcome to the dungeon ... "Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead." YES ... That's Sean Connery, baby ... Sorry to kill the GODDY! So here's a little ... ... to compensate. Remember the rule of 3s ... Members EJ2
I like all of them, but speaking of space and style, footsies (watch her play the bass) and dexterity, get a load of Barbara Dennerlein - Jazz, prog rock, house, techno, trance, classical (Bach Preludes a la Glen Gould) etc., etc. is all cool for me. What's up with Kevin Moore? Where did he disappear to? Hey, Joe, where ya goin' with that gun in your hand.....

I think that his influence was crucial in the composition..the songs were way more complex back in the day, today that complexity is substituted by endless shredding of the Dynamic Duo. Also KM obviously had means to restrain Petrucci and with Rudess onboard we just get DOUBLE amount of shred.
