any time i think a pedal is really expensive i look at the prices of pedals in the late 60s/early 70s.
a lot of them are about the same as they are today!

Just get a moog, then build or buy a cheap 8 step sequencer.

That way, you get it in two steps, you have a mix control you can tweak in realtime, you have a CLEAN ring mod, and you have an LFO. Plus you have a sequencer that can control other CV pedals.

Well, the frostwave one is pretty expensive, but this on Ebay might work:

That's only like 30-50 bucks in parts

(the chips, resistors, and transistors cost next to nothing- the main cost is the amount of pots, knobs, and the enclosure)
