Members whyareyoualive
would a compressor pedal be good for lead riffs. if so, why?
Phil O'Keefe
It might be - depending on what you're after. A compressor can even out your playing dynamics, add more sustain, give you a bit of a volume boost - lots of possibilities. Different compressors excel at different things too - some are better for sustain, while others are better for emphasizing note attacks, etc. The ideal compressor is really a matter of taste, and suitability for the application at hand. What sort of music do you play? What would you like the compressor to "do" for your sound?

Members guit30
A juicer type compressor would be good for leads ,but not a tone sucker like an opto comp or Dyna Comp J
Phil O'Keefe
what pedals for emphasizing note attack? In pedal format, the usual choice is something like an Orange Squeezer or clone. Rack units with controls for adjusting the attack time can do it too.
Members barneyc4
I recommend you check out the MXR Dyna Comp or the Boss CS-2/CS-3.
Members Lanefair
I couldn't use a compressor for specific parts of a song. I need it on all the time otherwise it sounds flat. Even after buying a good amp/guitar.
