An oxymoron.

No, sir, I've seen some very fine porn in my day -- at least it seemed so at the time. And thanks to the dirty pay-per-minute way, you can sift through quite a bit in a short time.

However, I think "good" and "bad" porn is based more on the viewers relationship to the performers, their chemistry and the ability to capture money shots is way more important than dramatic and aesthetic concerns, obviously.

Speaking as a filmmaker myself, however, even when it comes to pron, there's definitely the good, bad, and the fugly.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of the original Emmanuelle trilogy and own all the music from those films. AIR is indeed a fan of Francis Lai (Emmanuelle 2) score, but in no way did AIR rip-off any part of the Emmanuelle series whatsoever.

Secondly, there were several 70's porn scores that featured strings (solina especially). Go back and watch Debbie Does Dallas. It's all over the place.

I stand corrected! I had no idea this was such an art form.

Well, maybe a form of something ... I'm just saying there are good and less good and really less good examples of everything.

Anyway, I'd never presume to correct the Great Josey Wales ... I'd rather whistle Dixie.

Heh heh ... this thread reminds me of that episode of Family Guy where Brian was a nominee for a porn award.

They came to the category for best soundtrack, and played samples of the nominees. The first two nominees are typical cheesy jazz/funk arrangements.

The third nominee was John Williams - the clip showed him conducting an orchestra, and the music was this bombastic symphonic segment from an adventure movie battle scene. Cut to Williams in the audience crossing his fingers in anticipation for the award ...

Here's a video ... fun starts at 3:15 ... :D

Interestingly enough, both the first two compositions are by legit arrangers, one of which does the FG theme song, the other one does a lot of the music in the show. Walter Murphy and Ron Jones...
