AIR is indeed a fan of Francis Lai (Emmanuelle 2) score, but in no way did AIR rip-off any part of the Emmanuelle series whatsoever. i'm compelled to disagree. and i'm actually talking about the Emmanuelle score, by Pierre Bachelet. the soundtrack in question can be found here: http://lix.in/2e4f97 i have not played this for anyone well-versed in Air's very excellent creative output who didn't immediately think "holy {censored} _THIS_ is like their primary influence!" oh and before you go flying off the handle at that link, remember it's out-of-print due to legal action by Robert Fripp because of the "rape sequence" track which he thought sounded alot like "Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part II". copies of this record go for significantly more than your average soft-porn soundtrack. I'm very familiar with the Pierre Bachelet & Herve Roy score. I own it. It is nice, but in no way of composition is it similar to AIR whatsoever. It has a great feel to it, and AIR's sound at times is quite retro, but as a huge AIR fan and a huge fan of the Emmanuelle scores and movies I don't see it as a primary influence. Any tip on how to overcome this would be welcome. I'm familiar with Pierre's song 'Emmanuelle' but not with the rest of the soundtrack and it's too long ago I've viewed the movie to remember. It's just a great score, and some of the instrument selections are similar. But I think that's where it ends. It's an interesting comparison though. I'm interested to see what eminor thinks about it. After having a quick listen during my lunchbreak I'll say that Air have been influenced by, and not really ripped of (although some chord progressions and drumming style are very close on the Virgin Suicides soundtrack) but then Bachelet isn't innocent either. I think the guitar arps / pick bass / orchestral combo (wether synthetic or acoustic) started with Serge Gainsbourg's 'L'histoire de Melody Nelson' with Michel Colombier conducting the orchestra. Colombier also arranged the orchestral stuff on Air"s Talkie Walkie. Even Godrich and Beck (listen to Sea Change) have been largely influenced by this sound.
