Members Fender&EHX4ever
I've wanted to post a soundclip for a long time, and now I finally had some time to do it. I hope this helps out anyone who is thinking of picking one up. I have 2 of these. Both of them were reconditioned and calibrated by Howard Davis. One of my units has the extended delay mod. The unit presented here has no modifications. This is one of the earliest DMMs. It does not have any modulation. It uses the old SAD1024 BBD chips, so it is very lofi. The repeats have a slightly distorted, grainy quality, which gives it a unique and vintage sound that you aren't going to find in any modeller or digital delay. The Feedback knob is very tempermental starting around 10:00, and it is sensitive to the amount of gain you push into the unit. This is most likely the reason why the squelch switch was added - to reduce the tendency to self-oscillate in the higher feedback settings. One thing I've tried doing is connecting my vintage EHX HotFoot to the Feedback pot, and regulating the amount of feedback as I play. This makes for some interesting interplay, and allows me to integrate the self-oscillation in a musical way. The delay time reaches somewhere between 400 - 500 ms. It's long enough to do slower dotted eighth lines, as you will hear in the soundclip. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6720933 More links about the '78 DMM: http://filters.muziq.be/model/eh/memoryman/deluxe http://www.tonefrenzy.com/effects/electro_harmonix_deluxe_memory_m.html http://electroharmonix.ronsound.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=45 http://www.vintage-music-equipment.de/connys-studio/guitar-effects/64 http://www.jeverman.com/truebypass.html http://www.synthdiy.com/files/2007/sad1024.jpg Official DMM Lounge The Officially Official Deluxe Memory Man Thread
Members SonicVI
I had one of these back in the mid 90's. I loved it except it always had a little ringing sound on higher delay times. I have a 5-knobber from '81 now, even better.

The first one I bought had that problem, but Howard was able to calibrate it out.
Members RoboPimp
sounds a hell of a lot better than the three analog delays in that PGS shootout.
Members Fender&EHX4ever
sounds a hell of a lot better than the three analog delays in that PGS shootout. In the first shootout test, I couldn't hear a whole lot of difference between the 3.
