Members Crxsh
Well, this particular scam is usually run by a group of scoundrels that will try and convince you that "check" is spelled with a "q" for their own gain, profit, etc. ... but we all know that's a bunch of hullabaloo and generally disregard their foolish claims. Members english_bob
Check / Cheque is a US / UK thing. Same principle as color / colour etc- Americans hate the French, so they don't want their words to look like they have any kind of common root :poke:

It was hilarious until the epilogue where the initiator of the prank disappeared from the internet without a trace. Coincidence? Creepy, either way. Members celoedus
Aren't all these check scams easily defeated by simplying waiting until the check you get clears before you ship anything? Aren't the people getting scammed the ones not waiting for this to happen? Also, if they could do a check then they can also deposit it at any bank to your account/routing numbers. And, you'd see the results and get a note from your bank all the same. I just don't see how you could lose if you just waited for the clear... in words of yoda, that is why you fail. Members thirsty one
Once they have your address, they can send their shipping company right over and help themselves.

Members Kayzer
So you'd give these people your address to send you the cheque? wouldnt it be easier to get adresses out of the white pages then, IIRC there are a few names with adresses inside ;-)

Members andreas
Waiting until a cheque has cleared can sometimes not be enough... if the cheque is stolen, it may clear first, and "unclear" later (so you're out both the money and the gear)... http://www.zyra.org.uk/cheqscam.htm
