Even if you're not interested in playing classical it's still important to get a solid foundation in how the bow works, how to hold it, make intelligent bowing decisions, etc. You can't learn that stuff on your own. Good luck. Once you have the basics down and can pull a good sound it's a pretty simple instrument to play in a rock/experimental setting imo.
