Members hangwire
Thanks hangwire. So you're talking about the basic EHX Memory Boy? Not the deluxe or anything like that? I've heard one of those original blue box EHX Deluxe Memory Man and that sounded great. Honestly, I'm open to all possibilities, I guess I just want to find something that is close in warmess and quality to the Boss DM-1/MXR M-118. yup the xo sized box regular memory boy... give it a test drive and see... Thanks, I might go do that on Tuesday. I've got a gift for a local music shop and they probably have one.
Members nightraven
i don't know how i could help, i know nearly nothing about electronics i did come across all this stuff on the DB-5 though http://www.godiksennet.com/images/sch/Boss_DB-5_pcb.gif http://www.godiksennet.com/images/sch/Boss_DB-5_sch.gif http://www.godiksennet.com/images/sch/Boss_DB-5_parts.gif http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5784&g2_serialNumber=2 personally i don't need a clone since i've got the real thing but it would be great to have the option to get a clone available in case i have to sell mine at some point, or if more people start to realise the true awesomeness of this pedal

I'll have to see if I can track down all the parts, or suitable replacement parts. Thanks.
Members ScienceFriction
So I bought a Boss DM-100 Chorus/Echo box and I'm hoping it will satisfy my desire for a classic, warm analog delay. Does anyone know if it's comparable to the Boss DM-1 or DM-2? I have a feeling it will be more like the DM-2, but based on my limited knowledge of it, it will be like a DM-1 & CE-1. I'll update once I get it (and perhaps do a good demo of it with guitar).

Members ScienceFriction
Thanks, that's a good combo too. I've got nothing against the CE-2 & DM-3, in fact I thought about getting a CE-2 before I found a 15V Retro-Sonic Chorus. For the price I think it's a great way to go, and I assume it will be very reliable.
Members ScienceFriction
So is the Boss DM-100 supposed to be so noisey when you play it? When I'm not playing it's dead quiet, but when I play a note I get a very noticeble swell of noise. The chorus isn't noisey at all, just the delay.. Aside from that it really is a great sounding delay and chorus!
Members TomCTC
I had that MXR delay a while back, I ran it right into my effects loop when I had a Road King. It was alright, I only paid $100 for it.. but I wouldn't buy it again. Really dirty repeats, for sure.

I'm seeing a lot of DM2s not selling for almost half what they were pulling a few years back before the carbon copy and AD-9 RI etc...
Members seifukusha
alot of old japanese stuff's prices has gone down. in japan alot of old mij boss stuff has become quite cheap or decent too much choice nowadays
Members ScienceFriction
The chorus is actually really quiet on the unit, and I think it sounds a lot like my early, mono Retro-Sonic Chorus (which I think sounds practically exactly like the CE-1). When I turn the number of repeats down on the delay it isn't really that noisy, or noisy at all. Around 5 it starts to get really noisy though. It's definitely not for U2 delay I don't think, I find it to be a lot like echo and early, early analog delay. It's a great box, no bypass of course, but I love it already. I want to find out what IC's are in it, but I'm scared to open it up and look around.
Members hwaorang
I have a MXR 118 and a Boss DM-2. The MXR is really dark and dirty. I like the Boss better, to be honest. It's dark, but not too dark and it oscillates great.
Members ScienceFriction
I'm considering picking up a MXR M-118, because my DM-100 has no bypass at all (anyway around that???). I don't see a problem with a dark, dirty delay for dirty sounding guitar, but for playing clean I understand. I guess the DM-2 and assorted delays are great for both types of playing. Members Seth Carmody
If you've got your heart set on something in particular you should just get it regardless of what other people think. It's a good way to avoid unnecessary purchases like your DM-100 there...

Members ScienceFriction
I'm a quality pest then. I do like my DM-100 quite a bit actually. The only flaw I can find with it is that I can't turn the effect off and retain a signal from the guitar to the amp. I think I'll still get an old analog delay at some point though, I feel satisfied with this delay for now.
Members seifukusha
i just found 3 dm100-300's in tokyo last weekend about 200ish each. not bad, but i got them back in the day for cheap. still, they do sound good
Members ScienceFriction
That's a bit more than what I paid. They really do sound great, I'm starting to figure it out and it suits my needs perfectly. I'm also glad I got some reliable and affordable, better than paying a lot of then spending a lot to fix it. Members ScienceFriction
I just got a Boss DM-1 today, so my quest has ended. It's a North American version, runs on 110VAC, and it's pretty nice. It's not really noisy on the settings I run it on, but it's definitely warmer than any other analog delay I've played. It's actually pretty similar to my DM-100, but.. warmer. So now I've got my main delay plus a back up delay/chorus. Now I just need a CE-1 and DB-5 and I've got the set.. Members ScienceFriction
I'm surprised people still reply, I thought I was being annoying. Thanks for responding guys. I'm really glad I finally got one. I'll probably source a few chips at some point when I can afford it, I don't plan on letting this piece out of my hands or go out of commission. I'm not too worried about the other two, but it would be nice to complete the set at some point. I'm sure the DB-5 are going to overpriced (or out of my price range) if I find one, but they sound "interesting". Yeah, CE-1s are all over ebay, I wish I had the money to buy that one that was mint in the box, but that's okay. I'm waiting for a reasonably priced 110VAC version to turn up when I can afford it. for now I have the first version of the Retrosonic Chorus and I think that replicates the CE-1 sound pretty much completely. Or at least good enough for me. On topic though, I just think it's hard to beat the sound of an analog delay that uses a Reticon R5101, SAD1024, or Panasonic MN3005, etc. I'm pretty sure I'm quickly becoming a delay nut. Members Seth Carmody
I'm more interested in different shades of distortion. A single Boss DD-7 has enough delay options for me
