Thanks Bodge. :o

There's one more that I did - it was the relic Shell Pink Musicmaster. Here's a link to that thread:

And a picture of the three - the Sea Foam Green Duo Sonic, The Fiesta Red Mustang and the Shell Pink Musicmaster.

stjames, if you have any questions or concerns, I'll be happy to do what I can to answer them for you. I'm no expert, but I did learn quite a lot about the process by doing these three guitars, and I do have a few friends who are true experts - guys who work at the various custom shops who drop occasional hints and tips to me from time to time... ;)

Where are you located - what part of the world?

I read the ReRanch article and it is incredibly helpful. Phil's threads are also good to follow along.

Thanks Bodge.

Thanks for the support. I'm in central Florida and I'm a little worried that the humidity will be a factor, so I don't think summer will be a good time to start the project.

Summer in central Florida (Ocala? Orlando?) would be a god-awful time and place to try to refinish a guitar. Ideally, you want the humidity somewhere close to 50% - too dry and / or hot, and you can have problems (the paint partially dries coming out of the can - even before it hits the guitar body), and if it's too humid and you're practically guaranteed to have "blushing" issues with the nitro lacquer. Better to wait for more ideal weather in the late fall or early winter, when it's still reasonably warm but not humid.

good Lord Phil...you and your short scales!
:)

I remember seeing them in the catalogs and stores when I was a teenager and thinking they were lesser instruments - we all wanted / had Strats and Teles and SG's and Les Pauls, and we knew the ones from the 60s were "better", even back then. Remember, that was back when a '65 Strat wasn't a "vintage" instrument, just a 10 year old used one that was considered superior to the new models. But I'll be darned if that little green Duo Sonic isn't getting a majority of my playing time these days. I just love that thing.:lol: But I do still love my Strat and my Casino and my Tele too. I'm not "only" about shortscales. :)

haha, i hear ya. even when i was getting into guitar, short scales were still considered a "lesser" guitar. they were cheap as hell, too, and i kinda wish i would have picked up a duo sonic. i'd like to try one to see how the neck feels with my ridiculous bear paws.
