Members OMTerria
Other than the pickups, they seem like pretty much identical guitars. Is there much difference in sound between the two?

Members Folky_Grunge
The scale length is different, too. As far as their difference in sound, I once heard someone say something like, "It's weird that the Jazzmaster and Jaguar look almost the same, because they sound almost completely different; the Jazzmaster is one of the darkest sounding guitars Fender has made, and the Jaguar is one of the brightest." Members OMTerria
Interesting, as the Jazzmaster seems to have a good bit more punch and chime than a Strat. Jags must be pretty damn bright then, that sounds fun
Members AimmarCair
Yeah Jags are short scale brightness bringers. Jazzmaster can get quite bright and trebly but the rhythm circuit balances that out. They're by no means jangle machines.
Members mhuxtable
Jags are bright. I use flatwounds on mine to tame it. Very "slicing" tone is how I put it....very snappy, short sustain, very jangly. Jazzmasters I think are CLOSER to Strats, but not like them really. More "chimey" with that bell like tone & all. & it feels differently since it has a Strat scale length & the Jag is a short scale.

Members ILOVEMYFENDER
Jazzmasters are warm, full, yet still bright.Jaguars are spanky, thin, and bright. Both are great with fuzz.

Members Cougar Hunter
I played a Jag for the first time last week. It sounded EXACTLY like the intro to "Under the Bridge".
