Members dkerwood
I finally upgraded my guitar after ten years of using the same one. With a higher quality instrument, I'm finding a lot of subtle changes in tone that make me like all the gain pedals I've accumulated over the years. I now have 3 ODs, 1 distortion, and 2 fuzzes on my board. Each one sounds substantially different, which makes it easy to dial in different sounds. I do try to dial them in for specific functions, however. IE, pushed amp tone (slight breakup), twangy southern rock, thick OD, etc... I must admit, though, that I keep accidentally dialing in my Fuzz Face to a tone really similar to my Mini Foot Fuzz and have to keep rolling back the bias on the FF. Once I repair my voltage starver, the FF will sound totally different so that similarity will go away. When I use my amp gain, I typically boost the mids quite a bit (clean channel is relatively flat) so it's a different sound than my other gain stages. I do have to admit, though, that if I wasn't so systematic in combating it, every pedal would be dialed in almost exactly the same.

Nah, man, with a higher quality guitar, you can actually hear the DIFFERENCE between six distortion pedals. I could quite happily play any set in the world with just my new guitar and my amp, but it's exciting to have new colors in the palette.

Members zinzin
i got a split personality and therefore have different sounds i am after. for my garagey-60's-project "jesus christ superfuzz" i go for a raw, fuzzy sound - mainly danelectro into ac15 with fuzz, slapback delay. for my other think "liquid gas" i go for a liquid sound mainly epi casino or hagstrom viking tremar deluxe with lots of effects into orange tt. for my new band i go for a indie guitar sound, just on the verge of breakup for open/barre chords, so rickenbacker 330 or hagstroem or casino into ac15, little slapback or reverb and that's about it. so for every pedal i buy it's because i need it for one of my three sounds. no, i am not getting back to the same one sound.
